What a great trip that would be. Me personally, I'd pick up a map for the Appalachian, Continental Divide, or the American Discovery Trail and grab my backpack!

You are going to need a lot of time, money, identification, maps, a light weight back pack, rain poncho, heavy socks, walking boots, and perseverance. This is a massive undertaking. You need a lot of money. You have to keep yourself clean and well fed. You don't want to be arrested for vagrancy somewhere. Always carry water and check the weather reports. Heat and cold can kill.
Wish I were in shape for a trip like this. Have a great time.

Check out campgrounds and hiking groups..
There are walking trips from New Hampshire to Appalacians.
Not for me...
You really need to start by googling
walking trips of the united states and canada
and see various options.
There are also books on hiking trips..
Study before you start or you will find yourself walking through some scary neighborhoods by mistake.
