Good question—my guess is that the expansion of a woman's abdomen occurs more rapidly than that of obese men. We would have to study the birth history of the obese women to see if pregnancy is a factor there as well..

I've only read articles that say "more common in pregnant woman and overweight people". I've never read an article that specifically says woman. I'm really interested in reading other's answers on this one cause I can not figure out why it would be more common in obese woman than obese men.

I know my daughter had an umbilical hernia when she was born but as she gets older it is slowly disappearing.

Welp, ive never been pregnant and im not obese, but I am a dude,.yet 5 years ago I had one fixed. I was told by my Dr. that I just have a weaker than normal abdominal wall and am prone to Hernias in general.

That umbilical was part of a 3 banger I was having done at once. Other two were groin area. But it was my 5th overall.

I would imagine it would be possible, I am 5'5 male and 150 in healthy shape and sufferd from one. It is caused from strain and I would imagine not from weight.
