Nerds are smart people so they probably have great paying jobs which would make them great providers as husbands. However, what are the ups and downs of marrying a nerd?

Use details freely. I got the time to listen. Thank you.

Hi,

I got married to a nerd, thinking "Hey why not we're different but we could work this out?", it's not that he had a GREAT paying job and I don't think being smart intellectually will ensure anyone a high paying job.
You know all to well that there are hott (in control) guys out there that hold it down who are far from being a nerd, or was a nerd when they were young and bloomed into a HOT successful man. What I'm saying here is that I am seperated from this nerd that I married and found the MAN of my dreams, who is just like me (not a nerd). The man that I am with now is very cool and sooo much more successful (no offense) in almost everything he does (socially & emotionally) then the passive sometimes really cold nerd that I married. Nerd husbands can be boring and very passive when ur trying to work a disagreement out (usually mamas boys) and if ur not a girly nerd urself then good luck!

There will ALWAYS be apart of you that wonders if there are any guys like you out there that wouldn't take you for granted. I honestly feel you have to be a nerd to truly appreciate one or else you'll feel awkard and sometimes even embarrassed ..lol...

Every person is different, therefore placing a stereotype on them does not mean they are going to follow it. "Nerds" are typically very smart, love to work and solve problems, yet most seem to have social problems, therefore that could result in a great provider, but lousy at conversation. I as a woman am not seeking only money, so a man that can provide good money, and can't talk to me, is not good. There will also be the people that consider themselves "nerds" because they play video games all the time, or they know the ends and outs of a computer ... they may spend their time rotting away in front of the computer screen all day, without a real job. It is the same with every stereotype out there ... you don't marry a "jock" because he is good at and plays football ... he may never make any good money off of that. All in all you need to marry a man that is well rounded, and suits the style of life you want to live.

I think nerds make great husbands. But then, I'm kind of a nerd myself, so my husband and I get along splendidly. Ups and downs depend on what you're looking for in a relationship. I like to stay home, hang out on the computer, play videogames, watch a TV show occasionally; my husband's lifestyle is similar, so it works great for us - he likes tinkering with the software, touchpanels, computers; just recently he got an iPhone and was very excited when the hacks came out. Instead of looking at porn, he's surfing iPhone hacking websites... it's cute. All of the above can be a downside for someone who likes to go out clubbing and partying, and finds science and technology boring. If your idea of reading is flipping through Cosmo and Oprah in your doctor's office, then discussing software hacks, the latest helicopter technology and the advances in neuroscience will seem insanely boring. But if Scientific American is your favorite magazine, then you will welcome such topics of conversation. It all depends on your perspective.

Oh HELL YEAH! I'm married to a nerd. He's a great father, great husband, good provider, and fantastic in bed. ;) All that man has to do is say "Hey baby." in that deep voice..and I just melt... LOL! The ups are they are better life partners... The downs.. they spend alot of time on their hobbies.. But I distract mine at times..

Good idea, let's lump all intelligent men in the world into one category and then assume that EVERY SINGLE person in that category will behave in the EXACT SAME way.

While we're at it, can we assume that jocks will always abuse their wives, skaters will always smoke pot around the kids, and attractive men will always have affairs?

Seriously. At least one could hope that if someone married a nerd, he could help them come up with more intelligent things to say.

I get on with many nerds and they do seem to be ungenerous and unfeeling (obviously as their skills are in non-human related fields). If you have a slight nerd tendency tho' you can have many good conversations with them. They can be quite funny. Not sure I would marry one tho', they won't be very "handy" if the pipe leaks under the bathroom sink.

OK, you can never judge an individual by what you think about them as a group. I am sure some nerds are wonderful and some are jerks. They are people, ya know...

The up side:
They are not concerned about fashion labels and don't notice if you wear their flannel pyjamas. They take it as a compliment that you want to look like them.
They don't care how much time and money you spend in bookshops.
It doesn't matter if you can't cook all that well, they usually eat with their head in a book or fingers on a keyboard, so you could feed them cardboard sandwiches and they wouldn't notice.
They are intelligent so they are good to take to trivia fundraisers you have to go to to help the local charities.
The fact that they have chosen you makes people think you're smart, too, and you never have to prove it.
You always have the latest computer programs.
The look of surprise and delight on their face when they suddenly realise you exist can make your day (this usually occurs somewhere between 9 and 11pm each evening)
You will always look 10 years younger when he takes his contacts out or glasses off.
He understands the importance of a glass of wine in the evening.
His mind is more open to new things so he is more likely to want to go to the movies or the theatre or a gallery.

The downside:
You will always be the one to organise the service for the car: he doesn't even know how to check the oil.
He will never be able to be allowed to choose his own outfits when you go out: he doesn't realise the brown and blue checked shirt doesn't work with the black and green pinstripe pants.
No matter how much you try, his waistband will always scrunch a little near the back belt loop.
He subscribes to Scooter monthly, which look embarrassing on the coffee table.
You will never get near the computer while he is home.
He will forget anniversaries and birthdays unless you lock them into his Blackberry.
Don't let him near the lawnmower, it will only end in tears.
Imported beer is more expensive than local brews.
You will need to reintroduce yourself to him at regular intervals.
Everyday debris like clothes, coffee mugs, newspapers, etc, when not being used, are things to be stepped over and walked around.

Nerds are after all people ... just coz they think technology is more fun then chasing women or booze doesnt mean they are great husbands ..

Infact you should remove this question and ask whether jocks make great husbands or not ??
