No. Being anything really depends on other people's perception of you. The world may see you as "butch" for playing manly sports, but then again, the world only sees those sports as manly because women don't play them. Who cares how anyone else sees you? At the end of the day, what the hell does it matter? You're not in this to get anyone's approval.

Manliness is for men, if your a girl that does manly stuff you are butch. Manly activities include:
tossing around the old pig skin
rustling some caddle
eating steak
smoking cigars
etc.

If you want it to be then it is! A lot of girls play aggressive sports such as Serena Williams, Anna Kournikova, Maria Sharapova -- all of which are so NOT butch!

Ugh, there goes society's conditioning of gender roles, hard at work as usual. It's not butch, it's healthy. Good for you that you're getting exercise; it's a lot more than what others can say.

I think that the word you're looking for is fun... If you like playing sports, then it would be safe to assume that you have fun doing it.... So I think the right word would be fun not butch.

all competition is aggressive. scrabble can get pretty cutthroat. manly? in light of the fact that i only know female rugby players, what sports are referring to?

No it just means your a tomboy. Plus there is nothing wrong with a woman playing any sort of sport and the same with men.

It depends on your appearance and attitude. If you wear the men's t-shirts or a skimpy tank and if you are cheerful or violently aggressive when playing.
