What are some adaptive PE activities that children can participate in that simulate a disability to teach them about the Paralympics? For example, sitting volleyball, where instead of standing, all children must sit so they can understand what it is like to play a sport with a disability.

put weights on both one arm and one leg for then to run.
try one on one soccer with blind fold and call number like you do in dusker hockey.
shoot hoops from a chiar
have a slegh run on land with some one calling left right
ahead of someone blind folded. (this is normal done in the winter Paralympic games.)

I could think of a few more but they cost an arm or a leg to do.

You need to rethink what you are trying to accomplish. If you want them to understand about paralympics sports there are some great movies out there they can watch. Kiss my Wheels is an excellent one.

If you want them to understand what if feels like to be a paralympian- you really can't do that. Trying to play wheelchair basketball is fun- but when you can get up out the chair at the end of the game it just isn't the same.

The best way kids learn about disability is to go to school with kids with disabilities and learn from them. You can't stimulate having a disability and being a professional athlete by playing a game.

If you have a local college which deals with disabilities, they might be able to help you or suggest something. I attended Temple University and at the time, the PE Dept was helping disabled veterans deal with their new situation.
