I have, well...just about every kind of sleep problem I can think of at one time or another. I am going to go to a sleep specialist at some point, but it keeps getting put off. I have heard all the traditional methods for helping sleep...no caffine, set scheduel, bath before bed, light excercise, sleepytime/chamomile tea, anything lavendar, relaxing music, no noise...
Is there anything out there I might be missing to help me until I can get to see someone? I've dealt with this my whole life, but with a family it is just getting harder and more annoying to deal with.

Sweetie, I think you have a few different things going on. I think you may be battling a form of depression. Also try taking some iron supplements. I know the feeling you have and it isnt a good one. But sometimes when we push ourselves to excercise then we gain more energy which allows us to sleep at night. Try to find time to spend on yourself and take a walk for 20-30 min a day. It will help. Try changing the foods you eat. Things that are more natural like fruits and veggies. These give your body the natural resources it needs for energy sleep and proper waste. Do go to your doctor as you may have a few things that they need to investigate. They'll do some blood work that should give you some answers. Remember honey that you have 3 small children that demand alot of your time and energy. Anyone who has had children those ages will agree.

Maybe it's from the stress. Try sleeping somewhere else, where you're far from everything you normally worry about. I'm not saying you go into a retreat or anything, go to a friend's house and try sleeping there. Or actually anywhere relaxing.
When I had sleeping problems it was because I was thinking of a lot of stuff that just wouldn't go away. The more I thought about it, the more I got pissed, the more I couldn't sleep. I wanted to have a good night's rest so I could handle the following day, but it just wasn't happening. Eventually I resigned myself to my new sleep patterns (made a mental note not to bring my problems to bed) and in time, I could sleep peacefully again.
And I'm thinking it's because I stopped worrying about everything. So relax, your body will find a way to sleep by itself if you simply let it.

I like Herbs, Etc.'s "Deep Sleep" as it is a sort of "shotgun approach" containing herbs that help with different types of insomnia. I suggest the liquid extract works better/faster for most people, and is the least expensive form. Read about it here: http://www.herbsetc.com/Shopping/d/deep_sleep.htm Dosage is based on 150 lb. adult so adjust accordingly.
Also have seen L-theanine (an amino acid) take the edge off stress and it's symptoms for some people. Read about one company's take here: http://www.neurogenesis.com/ They will not make you drowsy so you can take through the day.
Are you in pain? having hot flashes? urinary problems? These can all make a mild case of a restless night into a major deal. Sleeplessness or interrupted sleep can make us unreasonably cranky and turn minor annoyances into a case for divorce or worse. Take this seriously & get some help before it seriously overtakes you.

Find a qualified and experienced practitoner of Reiki or reflexology in your area. They will help balance what's going on in your mind and body to help you fall asleep naturally. Both are wonderfully relaxing treatments, so you will also have a chance to nurture yourself, especially if you have a hectic family life going on around you.
