What makes them different than bank accounts in other countries?

The government of Switzerland won't release the names of it's customers to other people. So if you want a secret account, a private account or a money laundering account, you can go there and no one will be the wiser for it. That's why they're illegal in the US.

The Swiss will never tell anyone who has an account or give out any other information.
It was in Switzerland that the Nazis hid all their loot from the countries that they had over run and from the Jews. The Swiss still have all that including the priceless art the Nazis made off with. This is all still hidden from those whose belongings were taken.
Jews have fought for years to get access to
this information.

If you're really a criminal, a Swiss account is what you need to hide your wrongdoing.

Switzerland is a neutral country. As such, it is considered the most stable area to leave your money. Furthermore, the banks of Switzerland are extremely reliable and are very cooperative with those people who are trying to hide their profits and avoid taxes.

They are numbered so that no name is attached to them at all - some Bahamian institutions do this as well. If someone is divorcing and they have a numbered account there's no way to track that worth without the number and password.

They use numbered accounts, i.e. your name is not associated with the account, only a number. Maintains the strictest confidentiality.
