Weird, weird problem. I boot up the computer, fans spin, it beeps, etc and then about 6 seconds into the process, it looses power. Replaced the powersupply with another, larger-watt supply. No difference. Cleared the CMOS, no difference. Strangely, if I hold the restart button on the case in, it continues to boot up. The moment I let go of the restart button, it dies, no power...I'm about to clip the 2 wires from the restart button and solder them together if I can't find a more sophisticated approach.

Seems like a bad switch. Not sure if you solder the two wires together if it will fix it or not, before cutting anything double check the connections to your motherboard from the power switch and reset button. Your computer could somehow be thinking that you are holding the power button in which would cause it to power off. Just play around with it and if need be put the Reset switch in place of the Power on on the mainboard and use the Reset button as your power on.

Sounds like it could be a bad switch, or possibly wired in backwards. You could try reversing the plug in on the motherboard from the switch first. If there is no difference replace the switch. If it is still no good then just short it out.
