This takes care of a huge drain on our economy and with no menial jobs for immigrants they'll stop coming here.

L.A. county paid out $550 million in SS & welfare benefits to illegal immigrants alone last year. What about the 20 year olds who pay SS tax and will never see a penny of it?

Illegal Alien Welfare Costs Exceed $35 Million
Tuesday, 02 October 2007
Total annual cost of illegals on taxpayers exceeds $1 billion

LA County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich has announced that a new report shows illegal aliens and their families in Los Angeles County collected over $35 million in welfare and food stamp allocations in July.

In the report, illegals are said to have collected nearly $20 million in welfare assistance for July 2007 and an additional $15 million in monthly food stamp allocations for an estimated annual cost of $440 million.

“Illegal immigration continues to have a devastating impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers,”said Antonovich. “In addition to $220 million for public safety and $400 million for healthcare, the $440 million in welfare allocations bring the total cost to County taxpayers that exceeds $1 billion a year -- this does not include the skyrocketing cost of education.”

Come to think of it, that's not really a bad idea.

How do ILLEGAL immigrants qualify for L.A. county money? Eliminating welfare is not the answer, especially for those in unexpected needy situations. However, if money wasn't handed over to ILLEGAL immigrants, that would stop the moochers from showing up with empty hands and no intentions for gainful employment.

ummmmmm...... does this even make sense?? As an actual 20 year old who plans on paying in and possibly never getting a penny of it, I see welfare and social security as two separate issues. Getting rid of SS would only cause more seniors to have to choose between food and medications. The government has to have a way of taking care of its elderly. What is the purpose of the government except to take care of its people?

To get rid of welfare would not see a rise in people taking menial jobs. Consider the reason people are in welfare. It isn't laziness I can tell you that. I am sure there are people cheat the system, but for the rest of the people, there is a reason. Whether it is a mother with 4 kids whose husband turned out to be a deadbeat. Or someone who is so far down on their luck they can't even see the light of day let alone hope for the future. We as a people have to take care of people less fortunate if not for purely social improvement reasons then for our own selfishness. If you want to get rid of vital social programs, I hope you are the next one to need them and not have welfare when you are unable to help yourself anymore.

That's the thing: Americans won't do those jobs. If you eliminated welfare, I'd be willing to bet a majority of those on it would just become homeless before working for a living. That's what welfare does to you: makes you complacent to bad living. You just expect handouts and fall apart when they don't come in.

Able-bodied adults are not the only people who benefit from welfare. If they were, it would also be my opinion that wefare should only supplement a low paying job, and not replace one.

Unfortunately, some people who abuse the welfare system have children that they are responsible for. There is really no other way to assure that the children are well-fed and have their necessities provided to them.

Some people might take those other jobs, but what about the elderly and disabled who can't work. Shall we starve them? What about the single parents who already work two jobs and can't make ends meet? Should we let their kids starve?

You're really worried about the SS tax you won't ever get to see? Selfish girl! What about all the money your parents spent raising you - do you plan on giving them back every penny? What about the vets who fought wars for your future and lost limbs or lives - are you going to personally feed those who are here to be fed, provide care to those who need care, and support those who need supporting? I doubt it.

Personally, if I pay less than 10% of my check to care for the people who cared for our generation, and our parents' generation, that is money well spent. They cared for us, it's time we repay it!

i have a better idea FINISH THE FENCE.PATROL THE BORDER BETTER. SHOOT ANYONE ATTEMPTING TO CROSS. SEND BACK EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO IS HERE ILLEGALLY. THROW EMPLOYERS IN JAIL WHO EMPLOY ILLEGALS. STOP ALL MEDICAL AND FINANCAL AID TO ANYONE WHO CANT PROVE CITIZENSHIP. ALLOW EMERGENCY ROOMS TO DENY TREATMENT TO ANYONE WHO IS ILLEGAL. There are american citizens who need help. Why in the hell do you want to punish americans! illegals are the problem. get rid of the problem. We need to vote out all politicians who refuse to act on this subject. We could start in california.
