Between the 60 and 80-gig, by all means get the 60-gig! Especially since you have Playstation 2 games. When Sony made the 80-gig machine, they left out the Emotion Engine chip to cut costs. That's the chip that allows full backwards compatibility with PS2 and PSOne games. While the 80-gig can play those games, they run on emulation software, which means not every game will work, and the ones that do will have several glitches. With each firmware release, Sony will expand the library of games that are playable on the 80-gig, but they've said they won't spend a lot of resources on this aspect. If backwards-compatibility is a strong point for you, get the 60gb. The hard drives on the PS3 are fully upgradable with any standard 2.5" HDD drive, and the instructions for the PS3 even tell you how to change it out.

Between PS3 and Xbox 360, I personally prefer the PS3. First of all, it can play all my old games. Secondly, hands-down it's the more powerful of the two hardware-wise. Better graphics, better sound, better processing, WiFi and ethernet ready, full 1080p. Also, it's a bit more reliable than the Xbox 360 (Microsoft has stated that the failure rate of their systems are 26-40%).

Gaming wise, Xbox currently has the lead. It's been out much longer than PS3 and game developers have gotten good at creating games for it. But in the next year, PS3 will start seeing it's big exclusives coming out. Of course, most games will be available for both systems, in which case PS3 will likely have better graphics and better features due to the more powerful processor and the massive Blu-ray storage capability.

Price-wise, if you get the Xbox Elite, it'll cost you the same if not more than the PS3 due to the $50 warranty (see my note on above failure rate) and accessories such as WiFi adapter (that comes standard on the PS3).

Hope this helps...

To be honest, the extra hundred you'll spend on the 80gb will be a waste. You'll more than likely never use 60gb worth of storage space.

Instead, I'd use that extra hundred and buy some accessories or games. You'll have the same system, a lil less storage and more fun! :o)

I also like the 360 though, but that's because I like Rainbow Six and I haven't found it for the PS3 yet.

Anyway, congrats on your new system once you get it. I hope you're happy with the one you get.

If you are going to spend that kind of money get the 80gb it will be well worth it. Be aware though they are not that many games for the ps3 so if you like replaying ur old ps2 games go ahead and get it.

I have a 360 and I love it. The games are fun, graphics are awesome, and the 360 is more than just video games. You have the dvd player, but you can also watch different file types burned to cd's. And you can set up a wireless connection to your pc and watch all the videos/ listen to all the music/ view all the pictures on your pc.

Plus x-box live, is the best thing to come to video games, well, ever. Play against anyone in the world, set up friend lists, download vidoes, movies, game trailers, game demos, and buy arcade games. Go with the 360, you won't be dissapointed.

Go with the X-Box 360 Elite, the ps3 kinda floped so manufacturers are not as quick to make games for it.. the elite is less than the PS3 and has way better games and come really great features espcially when you get Xbox-360. PLUS you get halo3..

Downesey is honestly incorrect. those 2 variations are the comparable with PS2 video games ~70% of them could nicely be performed. in elementary terms 20GB and NTSC 60GB play ~a hundred% of PS2 video games. PS2 video games are nevertheless area locked. NTSC console won't play chum PS2 video games and there is not any thank you to pass this subject.

I honestly dont know how the speed of the internet changes because of the HD space - both are large harddrives in the first place, and my PS3 is slow as heck on the net when its not wired. That wont change because of the size you buy.

Its more or less about the space - do you want the extra 20 gigs? I would go for it.

All I can say is, if you have enough money for the PS3, then definitely make worth your while by spending it on a XBOX360 Elite. Yeah you might have to pay for online services, but if you calculate it, it's only about the price of a rental game each month so it's still practically free.

Get the PS3 80 GB because 80 GB is faster than 60 GB.

The difference between 60GB and 80GB(apart from extra space) is that 80GB has no Emotion Engine chip for backwards compatibility with PS1/PS2 games. That's correct for US market. Euro version had no Emotion Engine chip right from the start. Get 60GB - that's more than enough space.

Regarding Xbox 360:
Let's compare PS3 and XBOX 360:

Almost a third of XBOX 360 are malfunctioning right from the start. PS3 return rate is only around 0.2%.
Let's compare them

PS3 has 7+1 kernels in Cell processor, Xbox 360 -only 3x2
PS3 uses advanced tech called Blu-Ray, one disc can store up to 54 gb (in the future - up to 200 gb), Xbox 360 - regular dual DVD (9.5 gb).
Calculations per sec - PS3 - 51-billion-dot-product-operati... per second
Xbox 360 - 33.6-billion-dot-product-opera... per second
PS3 has full media support - USBs, built-in card reader (except 20 gb version), ability to use printer and so on.
Xbox 360 has USBs and only 2 memory slots.
PS3 supports up to 7 Bluetooth Controllers
Xbox 360 - up to 4 Controllers
PS3 - wi-fi included (except 20 gb version)
Xbox 360 - wi-fi will cost you around 100 $

Graphics are stronger in PS3, due to RSX chip, that was developed by Nvidia exclusively for PS3. To estimate its power (roughly) - take 8600 Ultra nvidia graphics card, multiply it by 2 - get a result, still PS3 stronger, because 8600 Ultra runs on 400 Mhz and RSX runs on 550 Mhz.

PS3 has a chip from AGEIA company. It does to physics of the game same thing GPU (videocard processor) does to graphics. This card is on sale for PC. The price is around 350$.

Xbox 360 is widely known for so-called "red ring of death" problem - it gets overheated easily. My PS3 was running for more than 8 hours non-stop with no problems. Sometimes Xbox 360 becomes so overheated, that thermopaste on CPU melts, drips on motherboard and successfully shortcircuits it.

Besides all of this, I've seen disassembled Xbox 360 - regular PC architecture - Billy Gates is an uninventive nerd (as usual).
When I saw disassembled PS3 - it was a surprise - smart architecture, good cooling (don't buy external PS3 coolers - they make everything worse - original system is good), etc.

In 2008 we'll get more than 300 games, including Metal Gear Solid 4 and other great exclusives. Here is the great link to the future PS3 releases. http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html......

PS3 online world will be free, Xbox 360 - you have to pay.

In some countries people call Xbox 360 "Coffin 360".

The funniest thing, that right now there are no games for PS3, that show full potential of the console.

Sony expects PS3 to stay on the market for, at least, 7-10 years.

I didn't mention Wii, because it's so weak, no point to talk about it.
