Definitely. You change and affect the world by existing. The more introspection and work you do on yourself, the better the world is. It only takes one person to change the world. Look at Gandhi, a man of peace and prayer. Also take a look at the works of Lao Tzu who preaches that change happens when one empties oneself and does NOT act.

One person may not be able to change the whole world however one person can make a very big difference. History has proved that one person can change things in big ways that impact peoples lives and even the whole world as we know it. Examples of that are civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King,Malcom X etc the list goes on and on. Unfortunately even today there are still problems but things are alot better than say they could be had it not been for them and many like them that stood up for what they believed in and even made the ultimate sacrifice to change things. The question is nowadays how far do you think the average individual will go to promote and create change?

There is no such thing as a "normal person" whether on the street or elsewhere. We are all distinctly individual one from the other and therefore capable of changing anything we choose, even the world if we try hard enough.

Do you assume that all of us would be tip-toeing throughout the time of the tulips? Or could we merely placed enormous audio device on the moon and blast purple Floyd at them? Or could all of us see Timothy Leary interior the clouds? Unfortunatly there are extra questions than solutions. consistent with probability somebody did dose the U.S. and perhaps subsequently we are so fairly fooled into believing we are helping the international.

Plato, Einstein, Gandhi, King are examples, but you must excel at something you really care about and I am not sure that this fits your requirement about being "just a normal person on the street." The worse for normal then.

No one is just a normal person. Each one of us has specific talents, viewpoints, interests, and characteristics that no other person on earth possesses. This is part of what makes each and every human life so valued.
If you want your life to impact others, I encourage you to find your passion and pursue it.
You can find your passion by getting involved in things that interest you. Try different things until you find your favorite. Then, go wild with it.
Also, you may want to read biographies of people who followed their dream. You'll find out why they did what they did. And you'll find that each one of them found and followed their passion.
Good luck, God bless, and be determined.

I like to think of it as ripples in a pond. No matter how small the stone, its drop affects the entire pond.
