I'm glad that some of you actually read the WHOLE question. While I enjoy reading your thoughts, that isn't what I wanted. What I needed was some websites that talk about it cause I'm doing a research paper and I have to site it!

So thanks to the ones that actually read my question!! ☺

Statistically when more people are packing, more people die.

There are 30,000 gun deaths in this country every year - about half murders, half suicides. for a rate of about 10/100,000.

Canada has fewer than 1000 gun deaths per year for a rate of 3/100,000

If you remove handguns from the equation, then the US murder-suicide rate from guns (rifles, shotguns, etc.) is about the same as Canada - about 2/100,000

The difference is access to hand guns. In the US it is pretty much open, in Canada it is very restricted. Both countries have equal access to other firearms - rifles, shotguns.

I think it is safe to say that access to handguns results in significantly more deaths and less safety.

Check with the National Rifle Assn. although I'm sure their argument will be pro gun. However a person who carries a gun with no training or experience is very dangerous, just as a person who has never had to draw one in a life or death situation. When a gun is pulled, everything changes - lives have been threatened and if the other person has a firearm it is much more likely it will be used on you given the opportunity. In addition, it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon without a permit, which is next to impossible to get in many states.

Check out which states and cities that have strict gun control and the crime rates in those same states and cities VS states and cities with liberal gun laws. Check things like Home invasions, car jacking, murder, shootings, robbery and so on. Bet you will be surprised to see the flow chart will support less gun control. You see, if a criminal knows I, an honest citizen, can't own a gun, then he doesn't have to worry about breaking in my house, jacking my car, or killing me because he will likely be the only one with a gun. Now, if he doesn't know and there is a great possibility I could own a gun, he will think twice about breaking into a house he doesn't know where I could be, or if I have a gun. That's why most robberies happen after actually being inside the home and investigating the people. I proudly show everyone that lives around me my guns. I don't hunt anymore, but I won guns and will use them. therefore no break-ins, no car jacking, no one pulling guns on me.

Just take a look at the statistics for people with concealed handgun licenses. I think that only like 4% of people in Texas have actually had to brandish thier weapons in self defense, pretty good odds I think....You can just search under concealed handgun statistics and it will list each state.

I will never be a vicitm of a violent crime, my Glock 23 and 30 Speer Hollow points guarantee that....

Just the presence of a gun makes a good situation bad and a bad situation worse. When a gun is shown the negotiation takes a turn. So, even if you have a level head I think you should keep your gun where only you know until it is a last resort.

while the holder of the gun might be safer, how much more danger does it bring to the prople surounding this person?
