If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your laptop for normal stuff and not gaming. . You don't need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

Firstly, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events has
a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it. The page below will give you access to a free scans.

2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.

3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"

Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs. Check the link to alter your virtual memory spec.

Hope this link helps. Shows you how to do everything step by step. You should get a least 60% more resources and speed
if you follow the tips.

Hi there,

lets try this first

Hardware stuff:

1) open your cpu using the Screw driver just a little. if you have bought dustbuster use it to wipe of any dust thats sitting on the processor fan. this would make cpu in stable condition.

2) While you do this unplug your computer.............. This is very important. be very careful while doing this.

Software :

1) Once the wipeout is complete turn on your machine go to MYCOMPUTER on you desktop right click on the local drive

go to properties ---> there you can see how much space is left on your hard disk...

2) go to disk cleaner : go to Start ---> All programs--> Accessories --> System tools----> Disk cleans
once it opens select all the check box's now click ok this would now remove some of the crap.....
3) go to Start ---> on the run type CMD once command prompt opens type dskcheck /f then it will try to check disk but will say that yould you like to open it when windows starts..

type "y" and enter
close the command prompt

turn off your computer..
by typing " shutdown -r " in command prompt if you cannot shut down the computer using the User interface..

once computer starts it would show that "disk check is enabled" donot do anything let it run...

Now it could be a virus / spyware as someone else has suggested. If so that's fairly easy to sort. However it could just as easily be that either you don't have enough RAM for the programs you are running or that your hard drive is nearly full or has not been defragged for a long time. The noise in the HD might mean that the drive is starting to seize up but it could be that it there is a bit of thrashing going on for the reasons in my previous sentence.

The problem you describe suggest a virus and/or spyware infection on your computer. Please run a good antivirus.
For spyware, you can try Windows Defender if you have a genuine windows copy. Else you can give a shot to EWIDO. Also try some free antivirus available on the net. I think even Norton has a trial version!

If the problem persists, I would suggest you to take a backup of important data and get your machine formatted and Windows reinstalled.
Also please make sure you keep defragmenting and cleaning up regularly.

Good luck!

If the drive is making sounds, first thing back up. Its likely that your drive is going for a toss. Since you deleted a lot of stuff and its been active excessively its possible its badly fragmented. That puts extra strain on the drive. Its important to run disk cleanups regularly. If the drive runs out of space and gets fragmented badly, it can wear out much faster.

if the cpu is running @ 100%, maybe your pc is infected with a virus. try checking your task manager, and locate the process which eats up most of your cpu. normally, the system idle process would be the highest, but if in your case there's another process, then just close it. if this process always start when you start your pc, go to 'run' in your start menu, then type in 'msconfig'. go to the 'startup' tab, and if you found that same process, uncheck it. then restart your pc and run a virus check. if you really cant deplete it for good, reformat your pc. thats it. try runnig kaspersky as your virus scanner. its good. dont ever use system mechanic because it ruins your pc is swear. lol. hope this helped.

Is your force unfastened from fragmentation? This disease can slow issues down. save a verify on frag tiers and likewise on the unfastened area.

Reboot.

If your computer is struggling only in windows, you may need more RAM.

If it struggles right from when you press the on button and makes some painful grinding noises, you're looking at small (or slave) hard drive failure.

And ignore Coco. Just because its older than seven years old doesn't mean its beyond help!
