And who are those hundreds of billions of dollars going to? Defense contractors.

Which party has crazy mad love for defense contractors? I'll give you a hint: It rhymes with "bepublican."

Tax money paid for the war. Oil revenues will supposedly make up for that, and more. Most of the money was made through private companies like Bechtel, Blackwater, Halliburton and Unical. The interesting thing is that the Bush family, as well as Rumsfeld and Cheney all had or have direct interests in these construction, weapons and oil companies, and have thus profited personally from the war. So, in a nutshell, the US public paid for an expensive war from which a handful of elites mainly profited, although it could also be said that america strengthened its control of world oil reserves (though the oil WILL run out soon anyway!)

675,000 Iraqi citizens and 3,800 U.S. soldiers have given their lives so that a handful of wealthy elitists, industrialists and power brokers could become wealthier and more powerful.
The Bush administration lied to Congress, hoodwinked the American people, and conned our valiant soldiers into believing there was honorable purpose for this illegal, unconstitutional, unjustifiable, immoral 'war' against another sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States.
From its very first day, this undeclared 'war' was all about OIL and WAR PROFITEERING. Nothing else.
Bush has put American taxpayers TRILLIONS of dollars in debt, which will take generations to pay off. Shortly after he leaves office, this country will see the most severe economic depression in its history. -RKO- 10/03/07

It's partially true, it's called the military industrial complex. We borrowed a lot of money from China, money that went right to American companies and contractors. This effectively pumped up our economy by injecting a lot of money (billions) into it. Almost all of the money we spend on the war goes right back into America's economy.

There's a buttload of untapped oil reserves there and US big oil corps need to keep an eye on it. We don't need it now, but we may someday. We have to protect the resource. We have to make sure we have a hand in regulating it and not let crazy extremists go apeshit and blow everything up over there.

Just my opinion of where the "money" idea came from. The "instilling Democracy" thing, who knows? Sure doesn't seem like it's working.

The government has spent an obscene amount of money. We went to war for the purpose of putting that money into the hands of those who decided to go to war and their rich friends, who are the ones who now own all that money.

The money spent is our taxes, the money made is profits from our spending on oil. Along the way tax dollars are funneled to various people.

cause when theres war, american oil companies make a lot of money cause they say that the future of all the oil in the middle east is uncertain so they can increase the price of american oil and we end up paying more for the same oil cause we're buying american oil

money is not for the People but for friends of the Administration. Halliburton and Blackwater are making big bucks as are most companies that supply the military!

I'm "guessing" you are referring to one of the original assertions by the neocon architects who preached that an invasion of Iraq would pay for itself with oil revenues? Haha, what a joke that was, but many Americans and politicians fell for it unfortunately.
