I need to know the meaning of the song "YOU" by The Carpenters!! Do you guys have any idea what this song means? Or why was it written? The history and whatever? HELP!!

Here's the lyrics:

You are the one who makes me happy
When everything else turns to grey
Yours is the voice that wakes me mornings
And sends me out into the day
You are the crowd that sits quiet
Listening to me
And all the mad sense that I make

You are one of the few things
worth remembering
And since it's all true
How could anyone mean more to me
Than you

Sorry if sometimes I look past you
There's no one beyond your eyes
Inside my head wheels are turning
Hey, sometimes I'm not so wise
You are my heart and my soul
My inspiration
Just like the old love song goes

You are one of the few things
worth remembering
And since it's all true
How could anyone mean more to me
Than you

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!

Well let me try:

He fells happy when shes around even when hes down and everything is going wrong.
He gets up and feels like hes worth something and so it keeps him going throughout the day.He thinks that what he says is nonsence but she listens to him and is so patient.
He thinks she is the greatest thing because of all the things she does to him andis wanting to tell her that.
He doesnt mean to miss her out but hes trying to jugle everything and he admits hes not so smart. But she means everything to him.

so on and so forth...

She is thanking her love and best friend for the times she has been less than perfect and she could rely on that person. Some key lines:

"You are the crowd that sits quiet, listening to me."
She feels this person listens to her like an audience does to her songs.

"You are one of the few things worth remembering"
She doesn't like her difficult past (which contributed to her death), but she likes how she feels about this person then and now.

"Sorry if I look past you; there's no one beyond your eyes"
She has overlooked how important this person is in her life, but the other's focus has primarily been on her.

"You are my heart and my soul, my inspiration; just like the old song goes"
References a song by the Righteous Brothers, which I quote from the chorus of now, with similar lyrics:
"You are my soul and my inspiration....without your love, baby, what good am I? What good am I?"

Hope this helps and is timely enough.
