Electoral college. It is democracy. If it was based on popular vote alone, then everyone would cater to California and NY, that's where all the people are. The rest of the country would get ignored, is THAT democracy? If you examine your voting rights, you would see that you do NOT have a right to vote for president. When you vote for president, you are actually voting for a group of electorates that cast a vote for president on your behalf. This is what the law says.

1. This is *NOT* a Democracy.... it is a Constitutional Republic
2. *ANYONE* that has even the smallest knowledge of the Constitution knows about the Electoral Collage and how it works
3. Your vote still counts in that you have a say in who your state's electoral votes are will be given to.
4. As an addendum: the Electoral Collage does what it was designed to do... Keep a few high population areas from deciding who will be President. If the vote was decided by a simple majority... the candidates would campaign in NY, LA, Chicago and a few other high population areas and totally ignore the rest of the country..... THEN your vote would truly not count.

It's the way our democracy works. The electoral college is designed so that the overpopulated states don't automatically determine every election. In effect, it allows smaller states to count and not be overrun by larger states. As a result, it is possible to win the popular vote while still losing the election. No, it's not "stealing" an election, no matter how much you want it to be so. It's just a rare occasion that happened recently and likely won't happen again for some time.

The Elctoral College which prevents Michigan effect from occuring on the national level. If you don't know what I men that occurs when 1 heavily populated area dictates what the other 40% will do. If you went to purely popular voting scheme small states, that mostly vote republican, will be worthless and the two coasts will decide every election. The electoral college should be tweaked so that the races are for congressional districts not entire states that way the red state blue state appearence of most of America's states will be reveaeled as the patchwork of red and blue conressional districts that it already is.

And...
No its a representative federal republic.

It's because the states were given a voice in national politics. Each state has a number of electors (number of senators + number of congressmen) and they actually elect the president. When you go to the polls, you are actually voting for electors, not candidates.

This is why small states like New Mexico can be more important in elections than you might think; in the past few presidential elections, even five votes in the electoral college have been very important.

And to answer your second question, no, it isn't democracy. It's a republic.

Your vote does not count type in case you reside in some states. in case you believe you studied the election count type maximum north eastern states did not even count type any votes yet B.O. had already gained those states. In those states, your vote could count type in archives even with the shown fact that it has no consequence in besides on the consequence of who wins that state.. advantageous isn't it?? besides, the U.S. isn't a democracy besides.. if it have been, that they had make you're taking a random quiz till now you voted and in case you surpassed the attempt then you definately could desire to vote and/or you're able to be able to desire to in elementary terms vote in case you payed taxes (extremely of going to the polls each and every 4 years, that they had merely have an added section once you document your taxes each and each 4 years the place you will place a verify next to who you % to vote for, yet do not anticipate that because of the fact as all of us comprehend, politics is all approximately fraud, no remember in case you're working the country or working for president).. heavily, it fairly is the comparable each and every 4 years, what decision do you have.. have not you spotted that the fraudulent senators are those that can't wait to run for presidency and the solid ethical senators infrequently do? the full political device is a humorous tale.

First off, I would advise a civics course because the United States of America is not a democracy, we are a democratic republic and there is a huge difference.

Secondly, it is called the Electoral College.

the same way you can have more yards in a football game, but lose the game. Please read about the Electoral college. In each state it does not matter if you get 99% of the vote or 51% it is the same. You need 270 to become pres, each state based on their representatives get so many electoral college votes.

We live in a democratic republic not a pure democracy. The electoral college chooses the president; stay in school!

I figured it's because the popular vote is more like a measurement of "fanatical" voters. The ones that are more fanatical will most likely participate in the popular vote. While the ones that are undecided and quiet will most likely not participate in the popular vote at all. Which makes the "popular" vote pretty much useless. IMO
