It's called Chkdsk and you can run it from within Windows Explorer by following these steps:
1. Right-click on your hard drive (e.g. C drive)
2. Select Properties.
3. Click the Tools tab.
You'll see an option for checking for errors. It may ask you to restart your system though if you select a full scan.
The other program I use is System Suite 7 (more info at the link below), which lets you schedule disk checks and runs a more thorough hard drive check called a S.M.A.R.T check. It also has a few other system optimizations that speed up your computer.

the disk defragmenter program..... whenever i run this program..... it always shows if somthing's wrong..... most of the time the defragmenting process will not proceed if there is error or damaged in your hard drive....... but some damaged parts in a hard drive were normal.... it's just how it is.
