Is it me, or have people forgotten how to listen to what others are REALLY saying, and only hear what they want to hear, and stop listening? They then attack the speaker before he/she can even finish the sentence. Bill O'Reilly is a great example of that. He doesn't even let you make your point, before interrupting, and attacking your statement because he doesn't like, or agree with what you are saying.

I'm over 50, and I can tell you that this phenomenon has been around a long time. I think that what might be different now is that both speakers and listeners are so used to instant feedback and instant gratification that neither wants to take enough time to have a memorable conversation in which issues are thoroughly discussed.

Just expressing an opinion is usually not enough to convince anyone of anything. Those opinions need to be discussed thoroughly and backed up with logical evidence. This type of conversation is becoming a lost art.

A good example of this is when you put experts up against one another on TV. These days it's more likely to turn into a shouting match than an intelligent argument.

either that or he's screeching at them to shut up! Yeah! That's a role model I want for my child! The falafel king himself is a lying sack! This phenomenon has gotten much worse since bush and cohorts have divided this country so badly! It seems conservatives are so full of hatred they have no time for anything else!

I hate Nancy Grace she is a prime example of that. She already has her bias opinions and yet and still puts people on her show just to tell them that they dont know what they are talking about. This chick needs to go back to what ever law firm she is from and sit on tack.

Good point. Back when sitcoms were very popular people often said sitcom- ich things. Wise cracks, etc. This was fun! Now that blowhard political commentators fill our airwaves, people have begun bloviating. This is annoying and rude.

It's not 'these days'. It's always been like that.

Paul Simon said it best:

'Still a man believes what he wants to believe and disregards the rest'

I agree completely with you.

Both parties are rife with this kind of thing.

Well in a lot of cases people start their argument with a false premise. If you start with a false premise, then everything else you say is pointless.

Libs teach classes on how to do that. Take any conservative's speaking appearence at a liberal college as an example.
