I live with 3 guys, our neighbors (who we are friends with) let us use their laundry machines to do wash, we have the same landlord and are given $300 for utilities (g, w, e) if you go over the 300 you have to pay the difference, the total amount of girls living there are 5, the utility bill came in for the month of september, and the girls were over $266 (207 g, 197 w, 162 e), while we didn't go over, the girls want us to cover at least half of the overage for us doing only 14 loads of wash there...they run an A/C window unit all the time (at around 63 degrees), and have a gas water heater, after talking to my roommates we never put the temperature of the water in the washer over warm...one way of helping the girls would be to max out our utility bill to 300 for the month of sept. though we did not go over...if we did this the girls want us to still split the remainder between the 9 of us...i feel like i am getting scammed in a way...any suggestions?

the cost at the local laundromat is 1.75 for a load of wash and i believe the same for the dryer...so the girls want us to split the overage 133/14 would be roughly 9.5 per load of wash used, which is ridiculous, and don't worry we are never going to be using their machines again

I wanted to know how much that window unit cost to run, so I kept track.......
.70-.80cents an hour, do the math for a month......stop doing laundry there for a month and compare....but on the other hand, your situation is going to be a monthly arguement, no matter what,,,,,,,,,,,

First, the landlord has quite a good deal. He gets $300 from each group. If the actual utilities are less, he makes a profit. If the actual utilities are more, the tenant has to pay the overage.

Those 14 loads of laundry did increase their gas, electric, and water. That window AC didn't run up the gas and water.

If you went to the laundomat, how much would it cost you per load to wash and dry? And dryers always take more than one fee to get a load dry.

MOve out on your own. i never had a roommate. Not good business. Get something that you can afford by yourself. It's not even sanitary to live with a bunch of people. You will end up with T.B. or hepatitis or better yet menningitis. which is highly contagious.

Stick to the orginal agreement. You didn't go over so your not responsible. You do laundry and you pay your landlord. Let them deal with their own bill and you handle yours. I think they are using you guys to pay for the things they enjoy.
