Will rerouting my central air unit through my attic instead of under my house cause humidity and mold problems in my attic? I want to install the flexible ducting to replace the old grungy ducts under my house and am thinking out rerouting the air unit through the attic. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Putting your ac sys in the attic is ok you may want to check the condensate drain line is clear . You can do this each time you change the air filter!! 3 to 4 times a year. As for the flex ducts they are ok for takeoff or room supply but main air duct the flex will cut down on the amount air flow going through it .Stay with the hard ducts. Replace the old if it is rotting out.

All the homes we have built have always had dual heating and air conditioning units with ducting in the open attic space as well as the lower level. It is the way most two story homes are built these days as a single unit just doesn't do the job for two floors.

it might want to . The air interior the ducting will be a lot colder than the encompassing air interior the attic in the course of the cooling season . till the ducting is properly insulated , moisture will form on it and run into the attic insulation and finally into your ceiling . mould will form also . If mould receives into the insulation between the partitions , you would possibly want to correctly be in for a good restoration invoice . it might want to be a lot less effectual also , and could no longer cool your position as well because it does now by way of better run for the chilly air . The attic warmth might want to warmth the cool air slightly formerly it reaches the rooms , alongside with decreased outlet rigidity . I`d attempt to do something with the triumphing ductwork instead .

First, use rigid metal ducting. The flex ducting will hold dust and dirt on the ridges. Second, insulate your ducting with proper duct insulation, and tape all joints. This will prevent sweating and mold buildup.
