1. Is marriage necessary to have a family? (Describe a typical American family) No. A typical American family these days is a mix and match of people. 2. What is the major role or function of a family? Is the family on the decline? If so, How so? The role or function of a family is to co-exist in society. To grow, to create traditions. Yes a typical family is on the decline as the divorce rate has gone up and there are more single parents than there have been in the past.
3. Is family important to you? If so How so? Family is very important to me. My son is my number 1 priority. I send my brother and sister money when they need it and I visit my grandparents every few weeks to help them with anything they need help with.
4. How do you feel about homosexual marriages? It doesn't concern me. If two people of the same sex want to get married that is their business.

1. Is marriage necessary to have a family? (Describe a typical American family) No I do not think so, My sister has a child with a boyfriend of many years. I do however think that a lot of people look down on it, why, it could be because of religion or just there beliefs. But I see nothing wrong with it. My sister always said, "Why get married because you have a baby, you should only get married because you love each other"
2. What is the major role or function of a family? Is the family on the decline? If so, How so? Well I don't know if I am answering this correctly, but, I believe that a family does not have to have a mom and a dad. I believe that it can have one mom or one dad, or two moms or two dads. or one of each. I think that SOME single parents do have it hard. and some single parents have it easier.
3. Is family important to you? If so How so? Family is the most important to me. Because well they are my family, they are my best friends, they are always there for me as I am always there for them. My family, my entire family are my history, my "background" if you want to call it. They are where I come from. And I am very proud of that. Also, my husband first off is my number one thing. I love him so much it hurts. Who are we without Family?
4. How do you feel about homosexual marriages? I think that if a woman and a woman or a man and a man want to get married, I say Why Not? They have the same love that I do for my husband. I believe that they should be able to show and celebrate there love as I do or as anyone else does. I do not think that it is anyone's business to say "You can not get married because you are gay or lesbian" It is not for me or anyone else to judge, I am not God.

1. I don't know that marriage is necessary to have a family. I think marriage is necessary to START a family. It goes against everything I've been taught and believe for it to be otherwise.
Is there such a thing as typical? Are you asking about how I FEEL the typical American family should be? Or are you asking about how is perceive the present day American family to be?
I FEEL the American family should have two parents of differing genders married to each other. It doesn't matter which one brings home the bacon, as long as they share in the responsibility of raising any offspring.
2. I feel that the major role or function of the family is to pass on information about how we, as a people, should act. How better to pass along that information than through teaching our children?
I feel the family unit is on the decline. People are having fewer children. Marriages are not lasting - people seem to feel that their marriage is disposable. People are not interested in a commitment of any kind, let alone marriage.
3. Family is very important to me. It is #2 on my list of priorities, and my job is #3. Can you guess what #1 is? Family is what teaches me to be Human. How can I learn to be who I should be? I can learn that by practicing on my family. Who else would sit and listen to me ramble on and on about the things I talk about?
4. While I feel that I've already made myself clear about this, I will go ahead and answer. I do not agree with homosexual marriage. I do not feel that it is natural. A man and a woman are built to fit together. Not only that, but our Creator has said that homosexuality is an abomination to Him.

I think that there still is a need to be married to be the 'typical' American family. There are also many variations of the 'typical' family with moms, dads, and step parents now a days.
Major role of family is to work together to enrich the lives of all those in the family while instilling the acceptable cultural values to the children in the family
Family is very important. How you interact with your family helps you grow as a person.
I feel the the second I tell someone who they can marry, they can tell me who I can or can't marry. As long as it is between to consenting adults then bless them on their journey

1.) to most people, no, marriage isn't necessary to have a family (although it should be), and i say there is no "typical" american family today, families are mixed, or there are single parent homes, or there are situations where family members are taking care of the mother's or father's children
2.) the main role of a family is to raise a well-rounded citizen of our society, unfortunately in most cases, this doesnt happen. and with the rise of the role in religion and conservatism in politics, i believe that families are trying to recover from the decline of recent years, people are learning from the mistakes that people made years ago, and trying, slowly, to turn it around, but there are lots of steps along the way that people will have to take for everyone in this country to be happy
3.) yes, (immediate) family is important to me because they are a major support system in my life.
4.) i do not oppose homosexual marriages. as long as there is a happy, healthy, loving relationship between 2 people, i dont see anything wrong

1. Marriage itself is not "necessary" but definite committment is necessary. When you have a ceremony that is performed in front of your loved ones and community you are more likely to keep your commitment. A "typical" American family is two loving committed adults and children (human or animal)
2. the major role or function of a family is to foster the human race in a positive way. Family may be changing in appearance but the goal and intention is still the same as its been since we crawled out of the trees: to foster the human race in a positive way. That is why parents are so devastated when their kids die or end up on death row - thats' not good for the human race. Regardless of the appearance of the family, what matters is how well the future is looking.
3. Family is EVERYTHING to me. My birth-mother abandoned me and my father when I was a toddler and I grew up with one huge goal: have a happy famiyl and prove it can be done. My first husband could not get with the program and I divorced and remarried because I decided my goal of a happy family was more important than feeling like a failure just to make HIM happy. Family is about everyone being together. Family causes a person to learn tolerance and acceptance - you can choose your friends but you're stuck with family so you better learn to get along regardless of differences.
4. Does it matter how I feel about them? I happen to be happy anytime someone makes a good family, whatever makes the future better, who cares about appearances? There are too many selfish messed up heterosexuals in the country to be pretending that heterosexuality is the ONLY way to have a good family. Kids get role models from all over the place, but only one place for adult love and guidance - their parents. Kids don't care if they have two daddies or two mommies, they just want love and guidance. It's society that makes a big deal out of it. As i've said in another answer, people are scared and lazy to change. But change happens anyway. Get used to it. What matters is the future of humanity. You can't get all hyped up about the particulars. If we let homosexuals get married then we'd just have more happy families. Sure, some wouldn't work out but no more or less percentage than heterosexuals who don't work out. Big deal. Make the future better without worrying about the surface. Genitals don't determine love and commitment. The generous heart comes in all types.

1. Marriage is not necessary to have a family. Families come in hundreds of combinations. Some are: married couples with children, married couples with no children, single parents and children, singles or married with foster/adoptive children, life long friends who consider themselves family, older sibling raising youngers sibling(s), other relatives (aunts/uncles/cousins, grandparents) raising children or providing a lot of care for children. I do think it's best if a family is rooted in marriage.
2. Tha major role of family was originally to populate the earth, and bring glory to God. I believe that's what it is still. I believe the family, today, is on the decline because we really aren't bringing much glory to God. While they are nothing new, divorce, child abuse, incest, selfishness, etc are not glorifiying to God and cause a lot of problems for a family.
3. Family is very important to me. My family consists of my husband, my parents (who are divorced), my brothers, my in-laws, my grandparents, my aunts and uncles and cous nieces and nephews, my in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a few very close friends. These are the people you can count on always and forever for anything, no matter what.
4. I disagree with homosexual marriages/unions. I don't think it's glorifiying to God (see #2).
