For a boy, you can't set aside Lucifer's negative associations. It's kind of like naming your son Hitler. Yes, the name existed before the villain, but the villain is so well known that the name is out of the question for ordinary use.

Chevy, Jersey, Thor and Van are all pretty out there, too, but I love Van. Especially if your last name is long or complicated. Van Smith sounds like something's missing. There's also Vaughn - if your last name is simple, it might be a better choice.

For the girls, I love Phoebe, Agatha and Augusta. Belle will be lost in a sea of Isabelles, Gabrielles and so on. If you're going for unusual - and it seems you are - Belle won't please you on the playground. Ilona is okay - just not the strongest name on your list. Personally, I'd probably pick Phoebe.

Happy baby!

Definitely Van for a boy and Belle or Phoebe for a girl are great choices.

First, I'm old (50) so I don't necessarily go for all of the "modern" names.

Of the boys names, I hate all of them except for Van (which even if uncommon, is at least semi-normal). Why would anyone name their child after the devil? Or a god? Or a car? I don't have a big problem with state/place names, but Jersey?

I don't really like any of the girls names. IIona might be OK.

I like the names Chevy and Van, and Jersey is OK too. But Lucifer and Thor? I wouldn't want to stick a kid with either of those names (especially Lucifer)--they have to go their whole lives with that name. Do you want your 10 year old to be called "Satan!" or "Evil!" on the school playground? ;-)

I love the names Belle and Phoebe. Agatha isn't my favorite, but if it means something to you (grandmother's name, perhaps?) then I think it's OK. Augusta and Ilona are OK, too.

I agree with you--out of those lists, Van and Belle are my favorites, too.

I like Van and Phoebe but not the others. In fact the boy names are a bit frightening. Good Luck!

I like Van a lot. I can live with Thor, but I'm Norwegian.

I don't like Chevy or Jersey -- it think it's wrong to name your kid after a car or a city or a state or a football uniform. It kinda sounds trailer-trashy. Some friends of ours named their daughter Lexus 8 years ago and they seriously regret it now. She goes by Lexie and they want to have her birth certificate changed but it costs $$$.

Lucifer is a ridiculous choice. I'm sorry, but if you name your kid something that means "satan," he is going to have a really hard life.

I like Ilona and Augusta for girl names, but Augusta is going to be really tough on a little baby because it sounds so grown-up. You would need a cute nickname for when she's little. Augi, Gussie or Gutsy (not Gusty!) might be sweet.

I liked Belle until you told me it was from Beauty and the Beast. No self-respecting person wants to have to tell people they were named after a Disney cartoon. If you insist on calling her Belle, please don't tell her that's where you got the name.

Phoebe is fine, but it's gotten so common between all the "Friends" and "Charm" fans out there. I don't think you want to be common, judging from the names on your list, so I'd dump that one on that score alone.

I prefer Agnes to Agatha. Agatha sounds a little matronly to me, and it doesn't have the potential for sweet nicknames. Aggie is a little too Texas Tech for my tastes, but Nessie is cute, and you can only get that from Agnes.

Like Van. Absolutely dislike all the rest, unless the child is a gang member, or a lord of the underworld.

Like Agatha, because it isn't overused. Belle is okay. Much better than Isabella (present day clone name). I don't like any of the other girl names.
