I was homeless for a few weeks I had some change, and had to buy cans of soup to live on for that few weeks, it was scary I was in San Diego, I was so scared with all the weirdos, I was walking by myself one night and this huge mexican guy, grabbed my arm and tried to pull me behind this building, it's amazing what strength you have when your scared, I don't know how I got away, but I did. My father finally sent me a ticket to come home and I have been great ever since, but I sure do feel for those who do have to live like this, at the same token if I can get out, then so can others. Some people just don't have the best of luck in life, and I can sympathize with that.

YES!!! I can remember having nothing for food.....for some reason we always had peanut butter, so if u had bread, u had a sandwich.........there were times, we had no heat or electricity and would have to bring in a kerosene heater borrowed from someone and use it......we would boil water on top of it to wash......does anyone know how bad kerosene stinks?

I never had a telephone, that was hard as a teenage girl......

I worked and would give my parents money to help out......never seemed to work or be enough though......

I am stronger because of it.....my kids have never gone through that......I got out of the poverty and moved on with my life.......I think we go through things in life and we should learn from them, even the bad things........

Yes, I was between apartments once, and stayed in a motel for 3 days. I felt homeless. Now, that I am older, and more established, I still remember those days, and do whatever I have to do to never be there again.

Yes, from what my mom has told me. I didn't know it at the time.
My mom HAD to divorce my dad (long story,he was a jerk) so she slowly saved enough money from her grocery allowence to take us 4 kids and rent a house far away from ou rdad. She hadn't worked all of her married life(17 years) but got a job and bought her own car for cash and taught herself to drive. She had a hard time of it but never let on to us kids.
We did wonder at times why we were always eating noodles and lots of soup with rice in it, we also got sick of eating hot dogs.
Once, my mom was very honest and 'old school" religious ect. she was caught shoplifting vitamins for us kids because she was afraid we weren't eating well. She cried and the manager let her go after he saw she was having a bad time. She never did that again and I am sure she would kill me for telling anyone about it because she was so embarassed.I am still proud of her since she did it all on her own and never asked for welfare.

Yep.There were days when we didn't have any food at all and there was one week about a year ago when we lived without electricity. Not to mention all the times we came really really close to getting evicted.

Yes.
Growing up my step dad used our money to take other lady's on holiday with him.
My g'parent's had to feed us because my mum had nothing but to be honest i knew nothing of this until 10 years ago.
She even broke into my savings account and spent all my 3000 pound savings on the mortgage to keep our heads dry!
4 yrs ago My Brother and Sister in law screwed me and my husband over saying we could live with them rent free as long as i care for their kids every single day for a year and 5 weeks later demanded money from us every week on one very basic check. Then he lost his job and wouldn't find another one, just mopped around under my feet all day and my husband had to pay their $1600 mortgage for 2 months that left us flat broke. The they quit buying groceries so my husband and i had to scrape our pennies to buy everyone groceries and feed their kids for our SIL to hide the food we bought or throw it away! Then in November i found out i was pregnant and we were penniless and my SIL kicked us out all because i didn't make her sons bed up proporly!
We were forced into his parent's trailer till we could save up money for a down on an apt. but got turned down because the apt. manager was a racist pig and didn't want whites in his community. Then my husbands sister called the county on us 3 times and had us citated for living on his parent's proporty and because of her we got forced out and i refused to move in with his parent's because they smoke like trains and i was about to have a baby so we were forced into a Ramamda Motel in a nasty part of town luckily next door to a sherriffs dept.
My husband found our house 2 days before our motel stay was up and we had no money whatsoever and i delivered my daughter 7 days later and came home to a house with furniture that belonged to his deceased grandmother.
It has taken us 3 years to be able to purchase our new dining table, sofa, entertainment center and put a small down on a new car!
