Find a spot out in the audience that isn't a person's face, and stare that that the whole time. Pretend like you are talking to just that spot and forget that everyone else is even there. Try to pick a spot that is level with the audience, like someone's armrest, so someone's tie.

Just a funny fact, when a poll was done a while back of what people are most afraid of, more people admitted to being more afraid of public speaking than the idea of dieing. So, if you look at it that way, more people would rather be in the coffin then giving the eulegy. When put that way, public speaking doesn't seem so bad, does it?

When you're giving the speech look past the last row of people so you're not really looking at anyone... It kinda makes the crowd go away, while giving the illusion that you're looking at them... It works for me... it also helps to be very prepared, don't memorize your speech, but go over it. It's better to have note cards with bullet statement of thing you want to talk about rather than a typed out script. speak slowly and avoid saying repetitive, nonsensical words like "um" or "uh"... And remember this: the audience will notice if you are nervous more than they will if you are relaxed. So open your body up and don't hold onto the lectern for dear life... Sometimes it's better to walk while your giving your speech rather than stay in the same place. also avoid putting your hands in your pockets and try to find a comfortable stance where you aren't rocking back and forth or swaying at all. It's a lot to think about but these things help
Good luck, you'll be fine...

Practice, practice, practice! The more comfortable you are with your speech, the better you will do. When you think about the speech, try not to get nervous about it. The more comfortable you are with the idea, the easier it will be to deliver the speech. No one is there to heckle you or give you a hard time, they are there to listen to what you have to say....and that's a good thing. Everyone realizes that it's not easy to stand up and give a speech, so you will have a sympathetic audience, trust me.

When I was in college I had to take a public speaking course. I was so nervous when I gave my first speech in front of the class that I didn't think I would be able to get through it. It turned out that my teacher was so impressed with my speech she convinced me to enter into a public speaking contest for the university. I ended up earning third place out of all the contestants and I was asked to join the debate team.

Things can work out if you just give yourself a chance.

You could get some really dark sunglasses or just paint the lense and when you get up there slip them on and forget everyone else is even there.

Just think if you do well there will be others with the fright in aww of you.

Remember to speak up.
Hey you could tell that joke about the two kids at the clinic.

Good Luck Buddy
And don't forget your Dino vitamin.

Practice is the only way to overcome your fear. It's very common to fear speaking in front of a crowd. Practice your speech until you nearly know it by heart. Practice by yourself, practice in front of a mirror, and practice in front of your friends/family. Remember to concentrate on speaking in a clear voice and watch your pace -- I always want to rush -- which might be what causes your stammering. Just knowing your speech backward and forward will help build your confidence.

When you go to step in front of the crowd -- pick a point near the back of the room to focus your eyes on. It is ideal to make eye contact with different people throughout the crowd -- but this is hard. One way to make it "appear" like you are making eye contact is to look at people's foreheads.

You'll be fine, just don't stress.

When I have to speak in front of large crowds I always focus in on one person in the audience, as if I were speaking to them exclusively. It's even better if you know a few people in the crowd that you can focus in on. Thinking that you are talking to someone you know and are comfortable with will help you relax.

Good Luck!!!

dont stress about it now. its gonna come regardless so just breathe and take your mind off of it. later, practice in front of the mirror and then in front of a family member or dog. review once more in the morning and make sure to go to the restroom before your speech and breath in deeply. you can do this! beforehand, scan the audience for a friendly face maybe a friend or teacher and just act like you are speaking to them one on one. its a speech, go out there be prepared and remeber they are just people like you. take your time and dont rush. you'll do great =)

I have those, too.
It's best when you think that all of the people watching are cabbages. Or you can just look at the forheads. I find it difficult to look at the audience in the eyes, so yah.
Good luck! I have to do a speech at the end of October in front of my class, too:(

First of all prepare your speech as best as possible.
What I always did in such occasions what to focus on my speech and pretend that I was all alone, reading out loud.
What my friend does is to recherche a couple of times in front of a mirror, and what my brother did (and was really funny) was to gather us all and read us his speech before appearing to the audience.
You may try them all!
Hope you'll do great!

try to listen to some music before giving a speech, drink cold water, take a cold shower, don't read before the speech!!(it would distract you're mind) , when you give a speech try holding something and squeezing it!! and try to give eye contacts (just to show them that you're ok and to make them interested), and don't talk too fast or too slow..just be normal, remember that those people are not there to make fun of you!! they want a good speech so you better do you're best : )

you will be fine!

~good luck~
