Here's the article:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,299020,00.html

Before you trash it for being on fox news, note that it is an AP story. The article doesn't say it's homosexual behavior, but reading the article makes that clear.

Do these gay guys just need some understanding? Maybe some mens rooms they can have sex in?

I used to live in a city where the gay men were using the bathrooms for sex. When I took my young daughter in the bathroom with me (before I knew) we were greeted by some sexual acts going on. Why cant these guys go to eachothers houses or even a motel to do what they want instead of doing it in a public place. I dont expect to see hetero sex in public, much less homosexual acts. What is there to understand?

No -this is not gay bashing ,it would be the same if anyone m/m or f/m were having sex in a public park, there is a place for this and it is at home or a motel just as any couple should.
These guys are usually the family guy looking for extra marital relation ships with men and should be stopped as this behaviour can lead to the spread of AIDS and std, and there is a chance that paedophiles could prey on children if allowed to stalk parks for sex.
Most decent gay men will go to a private place (motel ) and would never dream of casual pick ups in a park or toilet,
And it is this type of behaviour that gives gay guys a bad image when it is only the promiscuous or perverted ones that do this

You're right, at first I was going to whack it for being a Fox news story, but 40 men?? That's a great deal of arrests to be made. Public decency laws are different from state to state, but even here in Wisconsin, the DOT had to close some smaller rest areas because people were (and not just gay men, mind) meeting and having sex. Some were exchanging money. Others were just exchanging diseases.
It's not just *gay* men. The news article just pointed out gay men because that's the IN thing to do. You'd be surprised how many heterosexual stings are made in rest areas. They really should take it to a room but many prostitutes can't afford it nor choose to.
Trust me, my Partner drives Over the Road semi and she's been woken up too many times by people banging on her door soliciting for sex -- in rest areas, truck stops, on ramps, in closed and supposedly secure parking lots.
It's not an isolated problem.

This happens all over the place, including Covent Gardens in downtown London.

While it is gay-bashing when the cops entrap men, it is also a public health issue, and and a morals issue in that children should not be unduly and wantonly exposesd to sex acts.

Having said that, when two consenting adults take normal precautions not to be observed, there should be no arrest. The question you have to ask is, would a heterosexual couple be hauled off to jail for the same behavior? Would it even be considered 'lewd behavior' by the same officer?

First, the article referred to a local park not a Tennessee state park. Your qeustion infers this was a statewide crackdown. The problem of people meeting for sex in city parks has occurred statewide here in Tennesse as well as in cities all across the nation.

No, I do not believe this is gay bashing. Here in NAshville arrests have been made in cases involving both gay and heterosexual encounters taking place in city parks. Inappropriate is inappropriate and has nothing to do with ones sexuality.

As a bisexual who did have a phase of 'cottaging' when I was young, I can sympathise with the fact that the men think they've found somewhere 'private' to go to, only to find that the authorities have found it too.
As an adult I have problems with ANY sexual behaviour in public, and public does include anywhere someone can come past without expecting to find people involved in sexual acts. Those of us with children know how easily they run away from us, and how they like to find places to hide. No responsible adult would want a child to find them doing anything sexual.
And, by the way, children use mens rooms too.

I would guess that most of the men engaging in this behavior are closeted... living a secret double life... as far as the question "is this bashing"?... no... you can't have sex in public... it's illegal... that said... I blame society for the problem existing in the first place... If men weren't made to feel like sub-human beings for being gay in our society... and were allowed to live openly in daylight this problem would go away...

You know what the sad part is, I bet over half those men are married to women!! They are just creeps who sulk around back alleys and trails looking for casual sex.....personally I find it disgusting. I mean seriously how desperate do you have to be to find that arousing?? Why not just go to a bar and meet someone?

They do not need understanding they need to be arrested and embarrassed in the public eye so they don't do this crap again! It gives decent people a bad name.

I won't even bother to read the article. Plain and simple. Public sex is illegal. It would be the same for heterosexual couples, as well. Although, I seriously doubt that it would be considered newsworthy.

No, they don't need men's rooms such as in bathrooms. What they need to do is not practice sex in a public setting. This behavior is meant to be performed behind private closed doors, not as a public spectacle, just as is normal sexual acts between men and women.
