Acceleration to a point where you are traveling faster than sound can travel. At that point you literally break through and cause a loud bang sound, which is is why its called "breaking the sound barrier"

The sound "barrier" is the speed at which sound travels at a given altitude. At sea level the speed of sound is around 761 miles per hour. Although it is not a barrier, it was thought to be impossible to "break" early in aviation. And most jets that you see in the sky are not traveling faster than the speed of sound. The typical 747 usually travels around 550 miles per hour.

I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, especially seeing as I know how much it hurts to be in a situation like this, but honestly I don't think he wants to be with you. If he really did he wouldn't have broken up with you the first time before xmas. You sound like a nice person and I think you need someone who deserves all the love you have to give. And I don't think it's going to happen with this guy. Sorry again if that sounded harsh, and I wish you all the very best for the future. Chin up, as hard as it is now, I truely do belive that everything happens for a reason and maybe the reason this is happening is because someone even better for you is just around the corner.

When an object or person travels faster than the speed of sound(otherwise known as Mach I). Search for Chuck Yeager on yahoo.

When an object exceeds the speed of sound then it is leaving the noise of its 'bow wave' behind. That means you cannot hear it as it passes you, until the sound wave reaches you, some time later, by which time the object has sped away.

going faster than sound. when you look in the sky and see those white tails coming from jets, they are going faster than sound. and they have to be really high up so the boom that follows them does not affect what is on the ground. a sonic boom on the ground would break windows and set off car alarms and cause all kinds of trouble
