that didn’t exist prior to 2000? For clarification, this simply means no albums or EPs released before 2000. It’s OK if the band was together in some form earlier. This ended up being much harder than I thought originally. I wanted to put Mindless Self Indulgence on my list, but those bastards released Tight in 1999.

racingthroughlife - great call on Yeah Yeah Yeahs, very worthy.

Prof - Thanks. I did catch The Shins back when they appeared on SNL. I recall they had a woman in the band but as I look up their info, I see only men.

Dani G - I never would have predicted you and OK Go in a million years. Wonder if they are still using those treadmills?

Sookie - It was tough. There were so many bands that had to sneak something through as the 90's were winding down. Interpol is also a strong call. :)

Damned fan - Are you serious? That's horrible news. I liked The Soviettes.

icouldbeagain - I like your choices a lot. Nobody here EVER talks about Alison Goldfrapp. Strict Machine rocks!

BuzzKill - I might have to put Yeah Yeah Yeahs as my official number 4 and closing fast.

Interpol

That was tough.

That's a surprisingly hard question to answer, but I think I'll go with:

Arcade Fire
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Polyphonic Spree

And bands who just missed the cut - Kings of Leon, Bloc Party, Editors, Interpol, The Go! Team, The Shins.

Edit:
Didn't Modest Mouse have a few albums out before 2000? I think so anyway. Great band though!
And I think "The White Stripes" was released in 1999, although I suppose that's kinda splitting hairs :)

Rachel:
Nice choices! I only omitted CYHSY cause I think their second album was a huge disappointment, almost as bad as their first album is good.

I thought this was going to be real tough and as it turns out, it is. I can only think of two....

Major Maker- They did the Maynards Candy Commercial. The song is called Rollercoaster.. Actually not a bad band..

Message Of The Blues- Another band I heard because of the internet.. I was playing a gas jockey race game and a song called L.A from this band was playing.. Downloaded it from Itunes and heard a few more from them as well and again.. Not a bad band...

Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Modest Mouse, and I believe the White Stripes weren't released until after 2000.

Epica - Great band from Finland (or is it Holland?), great female singer. Seeing them Saturday open for OverKill.

Jon Oliva's Pain - This one is kind of tricky, what with all the Savatage releases, but the two CDs under the JOP banner are stellar.

Octavia Sperati - Norwegian group. All female, very heavy.

I wanted to include Lullacry, but just like you with MSI, they released Sweet Desire in 1999.

Could I get Heaven and Hell in there on a technicality (didn't exist as that band name until this year)?

No particular order:

Wig Wam
Gemini Five
Black Stone Cherry

I had the same problem, most of my "new" favorites were around in at least '99.

NP: "Desperate" - Baton Rouge

Edit:
josie - The 69 Eyes have been around since 1992.
