i say RAP! (and hip hop) even tho i classify those two as the same thing

I would have to say Rap and Hip Hop. Technology is continually sapping the soul out of modern "music." Beat machines are programmed. Many of these "artists" cannot play a musical instrument, furthermore, they admit they cannot sing. Hum the melody of your favorite hip hop or rap song...........there isn't one, they are talking. The art is in the lyric and ryhme. To quote the late Ray Charles, "you gotta sing to me baby."

ALL music has artistic value... Even if it's not a masterpiece.
Popular music, in your example, gives musicians the challenge to create a "Hook." There is no set chord progression or formula that always works.
