I used to bake bread from scratch to relieve stress...kneeding the dough for 10 min is a great way to work out stress, you can put a lot of energy into it. Then you get rewarded with the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread, not to mention the incredible taste. I don't have time to do that any more so now I practice meditation and deep breathing exercises to control stress. I also burn aromatherapy oils to help with stress, usually ylang-ylang (we found out the hard way that lavender does not relax my severely autistic son but instead makes him manic). I sometimes do yoga or belly dancing which are also great ways to manage stress.

It has been shown through studies that high stress levels are directly related to cortizone build up in the body.
Exercise burns up cortizone.
In my own experience, bike riding for an hour 2 times a week is enough to keep me relatively stress free.
At one time I was taking Tae kwon do classes 2 times a week, and they gave me quite the work out.
At that time I was in the best shape of my life and my moods were very predictable and under control.
Speaking of which. I have also found that taking 5-htp suppliments daily significantly improved my mood.

I'm an author and have lots of stress. I either play video games or write a short story where I unleash my entire nuclear arsenal on the enemy to vent the stress.

I'm big on deep breathing/meditation.
I am on Paxil but sometimes I get anxious anyway, so I meditate/deep breathe and it works for me.
Basically just sit as quitely as possible; inhale as much air as you can, exhale as much air as you can, and continue for at least a few minutes.
If you are a religious person you can think about a religious word that means something to you while you do this. If you are not religious, just try to think of something that is peaceful for you.

when i am stressed out, i usually start a detailed cleaning. (instead of just doing dishes, i will pull everything out of the cabinet and clean off the selves, change the liner, and neatly put everything back according to size and colors). sometimes its just folding clothes and ironing everything in the closets. just lil thing that i have to concentrate on helps keep the annoying moments outta sight and outta mind.
