You are right, of course, about the history of communism and Christianity.
[ All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need. ] The Holy Bible (NIV) Acts 4:32-35
What I've always wondered is who did they sell their belongings to? Therein lies an economic problem.
The apostles of Jesus were communists. Modern Christians deny this over and over. I'm not sure if its because they forgot or if they are following Jesus' prophecy:
["You will all fall away," Jesus told them, "for it is written:
" 'I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered.' Peter declared, "Even if all fall away, I will not." "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times." ] Mark14:27, 29-31 (NIV)
Conservative Christians disowned the real Jesus many years ago.

Communism was tried here in America. The original settlers, late 1800's by the early Utah Mormon settlers. The 60's and 70's. Remember all the communes that were around then.
Communism is still being practiced today in America. The good ole family. Everyone works for the common good and its all "owned" by the family.
Communism does work on a very small scale and only on a small scale.

The answer is pretty simple ... if you truly believe that this is the Christian way, go ahead and give everything you own to a worthy charity.
The MAJOR difference between Communism (as described by Marx et al) and Christianity's "all things in common" is that Communists FORCE people to participate, while the Christian model depends on people changing their hearts and lives to WANT to live in this way.
Obviously, the potential for abuse by unscrupulous people in power is much greater in the Communistic model, as history has borne out time and time again.
Finally, "REAL Communists only do good" ... who do you know who "only does good"? People have a tendency, once they have accumulated a little power through position or wealth, to seek to dominate those around them. It is human nature ... something that Christianity tries to help us overcome, but conquering this condition is by no means a sure thing. For Communism to work in its ideal form, people would need to live Christ-like lives (whether or not you believe in Christ, this means putting the needs of others over your own material well-being). Until this condition is the rule rather than the exception, I would rather take responsibility for my own actions -- good or bad, rich or poor, generous or miserly, how I act should not be controlled by a central government.
UPDATE: Thanks, kimmyisahotbabe, for the historical reminder. I had forgotten!

Communism sounds good on paper, but fails in real life because a few greedy people get everything, and the rest starve to death.
Capitalism gives everyone a chance to succeed, though the playing ground is far from level, and you still end up with a few greedy people with almost everything, and a lot of people scraping to get by. The main difference is that there is a large enough 'middle class' to maintain the illusion of prosperity for the majority.
Despite the massive debts that most people in the 'middle class' have hanging around their necks - credit cards, houses they bought at inflated prices with variable interest rate mortgages, overpriced cars that depreciate the second they are driven off the lot.
It's a disaster waiting to happen, a balancing act - one which continues to show more cracks at the base every day.
It's still the best deal going though - it's easy to sit around, do nothing, and complain about not getting anywhere. It is also easy to work your azz off your entire life and not get anywhere too.
You have to work hard, but you also have to work smart, and make good choices.

Where you born stupid or did you work at it your whole life? Either way you look at it you've achieved that rank.
Communism is a network of slugs who get paid a lot to do nothing, while those who bare the burden get little in return; where your business is mine and mine yours.
If you want it so bad let's start with you. Let's start by distributing you're possessions amongst those of us who answered this stupid question. I'll take it easy on you though, instead of asking for my driving time in your car, I'll just take one of your tires because one of mine is flat. Also, I'll need an additional $300.00 from you this month to feed my twelve kids. Little Becky needs shoes for soccer so you can help flip the tab for that as well. I have need of a few other things that you have too but I'll come by and take them when the urge comes up.
Oh, by the way; In the future I don't want to hear you or any one else talking badly about our glorious leader and comrade. It is not beneficial to the motherland.
ideogenetic> you need to change your name to genericidiot as you do not have an inkling as to what the bible is talking about.

Do you have any evidence of Christians practicing communism? I do not think so. That is simply not true.
Communism cannot work, it does not give anyone an incentive to work hard or to create something better.

Actually it was tried here. When the pilgrims first came to america, they all worked together and shared everything. They almost starved to death, so the next year everyone had their own plot of land to grow food on, and america has prospered ever since.
Every communist country has failed to produce enough food to feed their own people. America has never needed foreign aid to feed our people.
Should we try it here? Sure, if you want america to fail.
