A psychic vampire is anyone that drains not blood however the life energy or spiritual vitality from another human being. Psychic vampires take on all manner of shapes and descriptions; they are co-workers, lovers, strangers, emotional abusers, anyone who saps your vitality can be a psychic vampire. It is important to be aware of the psychic vampire mind set as this can provide clues as to whether you are a victim of their influence and lowering of spiritual energy. In many ways psychic vampirism is a personality type and the following list details nine attitudes or thought processes which a psychic vampire might feel toward another human being.
My happiness is more important than your happiness. You are responsible for my happiness.
My needs are the most important needs; your emotions exist to serve mine.
I will take from you until there is nothing left to take, and then I will grow angry when I cannot receive what I desire from you.
You are only necessary in that you supply me with energy and support. In the end I will make sure that you aware of just how unnecessary you are.
My life is the only life with meaning and value. All others exist only to support mine.
I will use whatever means I can to take what is mine. Your energy is mine for the taking.
I am not responsible for my own spiritual energy. You are responsible for sustaining me.
I take from you because you have allowed it.
I will support you in as much as I would support a herd of cattle or the growth of a crop. I have no emotional attachment or investment in you as a person. You are a means to an end.
Notice the recurring themes of domination, control and dependence. Psychic vampires depend on others for their energy; they feed off of the spiritual energy of those around them and often look for individuals with an originally heightened sense of spiritual worth and vitality. Such individuals are highly sought after by the psychic vampire as they provide a stable source of life energy to drain.
Love & Blessings

I remember hearing about a physics professor who proved mathematically how it would be impossible for the vampire myth to be real. A quick web surf turned up lots of hits related to this topic, along with lots of posts by vampire-defenders trying to debunk the vampire debunkers! The site I listed below also explains away some other common horror myths.
Stephen King has some interesting insights as to why people are fascinated with vampires (and other horror arch-types). He explains this concept in his book Danse Macabre, which unlike his other horror novels, is a non-fiction book that explains the horron genre and gives some insight on why it is so appealing to people. The second site cited below gives a brief summary of this book. Anyway, if my memory serves me right (it's been a LONG time since I read that book), King relates the archtype of the vampire to all sorts of real parasitical horrors that plague people in real life (cancer, AIDS, addiction, etc.), so I guess in that sense, there are such things as vampires.
Most of us have known at least one or two "$$ vampires" who are always looking for a handout, or a something for nothing deal at someone else's expense, and though it's not very "maternal" to admit it, I daresay a few moms out there have had weak moments when they felt like their offspring were sucking the life out of them!
I enjoyed reading Anne Rice's "Interview with a Vampire" (before Tom Cruise absolutely ruined the character of Lestat!) and have read a few of the sequels, but somewhere along the way the goths and gays lost me with all the glamourizing of vampires--I just don't get it??! I have heard and read all about the people that claim to be vampires and even go so far as to have fangs surgically implanted and drink blood for fun. (Wasn't that an episode of CSI?)
As for real supernatural vampires, unless it's some manifestation of Satan and his demons, I don't buy it. But it is kind of cool to scare yourself silly watching a horror movie or reading a book about them, isn't it?

Mythical vampires? No. Real vampires? Of course - a vampire is simply a being that consumes blood.

you need to go a little farther in to this question. If by 'vampire' you mean those bengs that can fly, are imortal, drink blood, ect. then no. I think they are more of an idea. romantic, but deadly, so on. but if you mean people that drink blood because the want to, or beleive they need to, but really dont have to many super powers, then yes, there are real vampires (blood drinkers) out there.

No, but if they were, I think this time of year they'd be headed for the northernmost points of the world for the longer nights.
