it always amazes me how many make good sense when you know the science behind them (not that the old wives did but amazing how much they got right by accident)
probably the one about holding a gold ring on a chain over a pregnant woman to define the sex of her baby (swings in one direction for a girl and the other for a boy) or if you slepp with a certian plant under your pilliow you will dream of your future husband

My father used to tell me that eating the crust of your piece of bread would make your hair grow curly. Dad had a mop of black curly hair and always ate his crusts, and I believed him. But because I didn't want curly hair in the first place I would suck the crust from my bread instead of chewing it so I didn't get the curls. It worked, my hair is as straight as can be.
