So your parents are rich and you get to travel everywhere, buying all the greatest fashions and showing off that beautiful face to all who will gaze upon it's wonder! What a wonderful life! I'm also really sorry that those heavenly ears must hear our painful American speech, i'll be sure to bring that up in the next meeting. As you say, the French did help during the revolutionary war, which would mean you owe us nothing for world war 1...but what about ww2? As I recall the British had quite a bit to do with saving you as well, what have you done for them to cancel out that debt? Perhaps free wine and cheese is in order? Perhaps some elements of your society are better, I don't have to live with the illusions that we are the best at everything. Most level headed Americans don't really believe that. Of course i'm sure that you, a highly intelligent and superior European, must know your history quite well..you must realize that without this nation of ignorant brutes we call America you would have been absorbed into the Soviet Union...your parents would never have been allowed to become wealthy. I am French too, and I lived 13 years in Texas and I had a very hard time to understand what Texans were trying to say. They are the biggest, the tallest, the best and they are Texans from Texas that is the biggest place in whole America. I could not contradict them, but they don't know much about those... old little countries... somewhere outside of America. France ? Very vague idea about... that old place... about French girls from the song "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir" (What does that mean ?) French wine to wash their sidewalk, some type of fried potatoes... and that's about it! They have no way to know for themselves unless they go to France and see for themselves. But they work too much and they do not have their annual five weeks vacation to visit France.There is only one hour of French TV News in Texas, once a week, and it was at 3:00 in the morning! So it is not their fault if they don't know. I can see a whole range of opinions on Questions and Answers and I am glad to see that some Americans like France very much, some even love France. I do not know what country France or Sweden you are from but in UK it is considered impolite to laugh at another person's accent or way of speaking! Americans in general are pretty much the same as anyone else. Like any country they have their odd balls and nerds, but if I consider America's place in the world I consider America and some of the other countries very scary indeed! Weapons and firepower and cant go mad all over now and again which makes America very Dangerous indeed, no way do I find them anything to laugh at, nor should you. As a Brit I understand where you're coming from. However, the US has more in the way of liberty than the UK. Come to that Iraq has probably more liberty than the UK!
As for GWB I totally agree, as does the majority of the world including Americans. American foreign policy is iffy at best, as is its gun culture and the rich/poor gap, but on the whole the people are decent and welcoming. Apart from the immigration people at JFK.
You either like it or hate it, but before you make up your mind you have to visit it. But land at a smaller airport, not JFK, Newark.
