My boss rarely praises us to our faces, usually she talks behind our backs w/ another employee & occasionally she'll say something nice that gets back to us. We've all heard good & bad about each other but if you ask for a review to see how you're doing/how you can improve she flips out. She thinks ppl should wait to be reviewed. (Ppl that have been here 2+ yrs say they've not been reviewed.) Nobody would know how they were doing if all the working world did that.
We all chalk it up to her never having been in a corporate environment. My Mom died 2 months ago & all I got was a hug. That doesn't pay the bills-I missed 3 days of work (couldn't afford any more than that). She didn't help me financially one iota. It was like unpaid depressing vacation.
Again-she has no corp. bkgrd. My Dad got 5 days off w/ pay and my brother 3. She has made me so broke (no health insurance or sick day pay either) I'm too poor to leave. I'm lookin for something though. I need a healthier environment.
My coworkers are great & our boss is nice, she's just not a business person. This week we got our paychecks but were told not to cash them for a day or two because there was no $ in the bank for them.

I really don't think anyone works in a place that has NONE of that.

I work for an insurance company in Michigan where sales is our main objective. There is a lot of competition between employees to get those sales and even more competition to look good in front of the manager for trying to get those sales even if they do not go through.

In the end everyone is looking out for #1. And that is not the company, but their own well being and future.

i don't think anyone can honestly say they have that type of environment! that doesn't mean that it's not exactly healthy though. I'm starting to think that brown-nosing and backstabbing are pretty much the norm in the work environment.

Not at all, it is physically and mentally draining. I work with dumb people all day long breathing in the smoke, and rotten alcohol breath. They throw money at me and expect me to turn it into gold for them.I am a casino dealer.
The money is good otherwise nobody would do the job.
Yes, most of the other 200 or so dealers I work with are great people. Just doing their job, it is the public who makes it horrible.

Us employees get along fine, it's the boss that does the back-stabbing to make herself look good.
