You sure that it's pci and not pci express? If you're card is a pci card then I would recommend getting Visiontek radeon x1550 256mb. You can get it from TigerDirect.

While PCI based graphic cards do exist, it is more common to have integrated, AGP, or PCI Express.
Could you please list the exact Gateway computer model so we can verify the type of card your system supports (AGP or PCI Express)?
It would also be useful to know if you are running WIndows XP or Windows Vista. If you are running Windows Vista or expect to upgrade to Windows Vista, it might be worth considering a graphics card that supports DirectX 10. While most games will support DX9 and DX10 for a period of time, eventually the latest games will only support DX10. If this is important to you, your choices in graphics cards at that price range does decrease (I'm using a nVidia 8600 GT based card that is DX10 and PCI Express that ran ~ $110). I believe the DX10 compatible ATI card entry point was a bit higher in price but prices do change rapidly so check when you are ready to purchase.
You can get a decent DX9 card starting around $50 but you'll find that you can only play modern games on the lower visual settings. NewEgg.com has a nice search page for entering your criteria to find cards but you can also check TigerDirect.com, PriceWatch.com, and a bunch of other sites.

ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT retails for $149, but gets 4/5 by Computer Power User (CPU). Check New Egg, and see if you can get it lower? It has 800 MHz Memory, 256 MB GDDR4.
Next up might be ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro $99. (Again, check New Egg - sometimes they offer great prices and seem to stand behind their sales). It has 256 DDR2 (1/2 the speed of GDDR4), and it gets 3-1/2 out of 4 by CPU.
Note - These are both PCI Express slot cards.

Next time tell us your computer make and model. Then we will be able to determine if you need a PCI, AGP, or PCI Express x16 style video card. If you only have a PCI slot for a video card your computer is too old to play the latest games.
For under $100, I recommend the ATI X1650PRO ($55). It should be fast enough for moderate games and probably will work with your existing power supply.
Common Buses and their Max Bandwidth
http://www.directron.com/expressguide.html
PCI 132 MB/s
AGP 4X # 1,066 MB/s
AGP 8X # 2,100 MB/s
PCI Express 16x 8000 MB/s
===============================
My opinion for a new video card:
For playing the latest games a FRAPS (frames per second) of 50 or higher
For moderate games a FRAPS of 30 or more.
For simple games or no games a FRAPS of 18 or more
For FRAPS ratings of video cards refer to:

Hi. I would review the data online (search for 'graphics shootout'). But what is best for you depends on what you do with it. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1945652,00.asp?kc=ETRSS02129TX1K0000532
