I work for a Water/sewer dept. and pouring it down the sink is the worst thing you can do. It will build up on the pipes and you will have a horrible problem in the future with blockages, and not to mention the sewer treatment plant can have problems from too much grease.
If the grease doesn't smell old or rancid then just use a little strainer with a handle and scoop out the bits. Thats what my mom always did.
Once it has been used a few times then I keep either old coffee cans/spaghetti/pickle jars and let the grease get completely cool and pour it into the jars and put the lid on and you can just throw it in the garbage.

Pouring oil or any grease down the drain will sooner or later cause it to back up. It will be less costly to just pour it into an old container like a coffee can, coke bottle, etc and then put it in the trash.

I have a metal funnel with a screen in it. After the oil cools I pour the oil through the funnel back into the bottle. It filters out the burned bits in the oil. I toss those in the trash and then I use the oil again the next time I fry.
When the oil starts getting too dark for my liking I just toss the bottle in the trash.

Pouring it down the drain is bad, I don't do that. I save the bottle that it came in from the store, I use a funnel, pour it back into that bottle. Making sure the lid is on tight. Then toss it in the trash.

I usually flush it. Feel way too guilty throwing it down the drain. Maybe its time to get a new fryer?! Is the black bits, bits of food? Check that its not paint peeling off, very common in industrial fryers.

Don't pour it down the drain. You'll end up with a major clog and mess. After it cools down, I pour mine in a container and freeze it. If it's not a lot you can pour it in a zip lock bag. Then on garbage day I throw it out.

Try making soap out of the waste oil:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soapmaking
* Saponification is commonly used to refer to the reaction of a metallic alkali (base) with a fat or oil to form soap.
* Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is a caustic base. If NaOH is used a hard soap is formed, whereas when potassium hydroxide (KOH) is used, a soft soap is formed. Vegetable oils and animal fats are fatty esters in the form of triglycerides. The alkali breaks the ester bond and releases the fatty acid and glycerol. If necessary, soaps may be precipitated by salting it out with saturated sodium chloride.
