Hi J Lo
I think you need to put an encryption in the form of a password over your network...
Here is how to do it:
1#Double click on the wireless icon to open that connection status..
2#Click properties>wireless network tab> under preferred networks, choose your desired connection to be encrypted
3#Click properties, under association tab and click network authentication : open, Data encryption: WEP
4#Type in a 8-12 letter password and your click OK.
Hope that helps you. §

I am assuming you have a wireless router.
If you have a wired router, freeloaders would have to plug into your network and you would see the wires and this is why I assume you have wireless.
The indicator lights on the router indicate connectivity and data flow. They do not indicate security status however.
You need to check your configuration. If you configured your router yourself, did you enable encryption, MAC address verification, etc on the LAN side? If someone else did the config did that individual enable encryption, etc?
If you do not know the answer, get the router manual out, check on how to log onto the router, and check this out. If it is encrypted, MAC address verification set on, etc you are probably OK. If these are not set, SET THEM and then reconfig your wireless pcs to reflect the security; enter the device MAC addresses in the router too.
VERY IMPORTANT - Never log onto a router or try to configure the router or update the firmware of a router using a wireless connection. Always use a wired connection.
Invoke the security. Kick the freeloaders off.

To know if it's locked, look for an image of a lock under the network name when you view the wireless networks. If not locked, follow the instructions from Netgear: http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101675.asp

if your using wireless internet and you want to know if its locked when you go to connect to your router you should see a image of a lock by it. if not you have to set up the WEP key and so on. The best thing to do is just call up netgear and tell them.

is this a wireless router your talking about? If you set it up correctly then you shouldn't have any problem. Have a friend come over with a laptop with wireless card and try to get on your network
