Why did they take pluto out as one as the planets? Do they not now how stupid thats is. Should they bring the planet back?

I think because it was too small (kidding). That's stupid all right, the solar system should have 9 planets and not 8. what I mean is that we need pluto to make a full solar system, don't you agree?

Pluto has always been a bit of a contradiction as far as being called a planet. It's orbit is eccentric -- at some points it is even closer to the sun than Neptune. And it is smaller than some moons in the solar system. So last year, the International Astronomical Union, after a vote by the membership, decided to reclassify it as a "dwarf planet".

Yeah, it seems a bit weird not to have Pluto officially a "planet" any more, but the dwarf planet category fits it so much better.

And Pluto hasn't gone anywhere -- it is still out there in orbit -- it is just under a new label. Not worth stressing about.

Yes this is quite controversial among astronomers. The reason that Pluto is no longer a planet is because a clear definition of what a planet is did not exist………….until August, 2006. At a meeting of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in Prague, in the Czech Republic, a majority of the researchers voted for a new definition of ‘planet.’ Pluto did not meet the criteria of this new definition and thus can no longer be considered a planet. Pluto is now considered a DWARF planet.

Mostly because they recently found out is is smaller than the Moon. When it was first discovered and named as a planet they estimated it was bigger than Mars. It was too far away to see it as a ball, it just looked like a dim star in the best telescopes of the time. They just guessed how big it was based on its brightness. They assumed it was a dark color and the brightness was because it was large size planet. Now we know that it is a bright color and very small.

So it is not stupid at all to demote it. It was stupid to call it a planet before they knew for sure how small it is. And it is stupid of you to say it is stupid before you knew why they did what they did.

I think they relegated Pluto to the Oort cloud by calling it some planetary debris coz it is in more than 1 piece. I think they should go back and bring it back out of the Oort cloud.

Pluto is a planet with its own moon. Might be a bit small, but it is a planet.
