We've pulled up the carpet and had terracotta slate flooring put in instead all downstairs, we've got a leather sofa too and the less clutter you have the better as it collects dust. Try the slate flooring - hard wearing, looks homely and it's more stylish than laminate flooring.

This probably won't be a problem if the house is new. But you'll want to make sure the filters for your heating system and AC are clean. You'll want to make sure that gaps are well-sealed so allergens can't come in- and incidentally, that will help with your various utility bills too!
And yes, try to use leather furnishings. And try not to use too many curtains so those can't collect dust.
Good luck!

Buy leather furniture. Stay away from fabrics as much as possible. That's what holds the allergens. I know there's something you can do to your furnace that helps with allergies. Special filters. Call your local oil company and ask them what they recommend for allergies
