I received clothing from a smoker's home and washed it twice, even with ammonia. Help!

Fresh Air!

Hang clothing outside for a day or two, windy days are best! Next wash clothes with a good detergent such as Tide and add some Borax. Repeat if necessary.

Sprays, etc. will just mask the odor and it will eventually come back.

Good Luck!

Ariel liquid tabs are the best for getting rid of the smell of smoke. But, don't tumble dry them, they need to go out on the line, more on a windy day than a sunny one. Try not to wash the clothes together either, as they will just be tossing around in the smokey water in your machine, Just do a couple things at a time.

I originally bought my favorite miracle product to deal with a cat with a urinary problem, but we've found it works on just about anything, even my husbands sweatiest smelliest most revolting clothes. And he's in the SCA. That means a heavily padded jacket over regular T-shirt, and 40 lbs. of steel armor over that. Even in August. GROSS!!!!! Try Nok-out. So far I have only found it at Cat shows and online but I worship that bottle.

Oh, and it gets rid of the smell of cat urine PERMANANTLY. It never comes back. I used it on a spot 3 years ago and found myself laying on the carpet there one day and it occured to me I couldn't smell a thing. So give this a shot on your clothing and I bet it will do the trick.... and keep it around for other goodies as well. But be sure to water it down as directions say and test a spot first. While it's great mixed as diercted I once used it full strength and it caused bleach spots. Whooops.

I used to work at a church bingo and came home smelling like an ashtray. Hanging clothes in fresh air would do the trick by morning. If your in a hurry use Febreze spray.

You could take it to a dry cleaner and explain what you want, or you could toss the clothing. Some things aren't worth it.

Sounds like you've done everything I would have.

Do you have a clothesline? I would rewash them and hang them on the line to dry.
