For those of you who are so adamant that Kate & Gerry McCann are guilty of 'neglect' (I am not), I ask you this.
If Madeleine was found alive and returned to her parents (very unlikely I know), would you still want them to be taken to court and put on trial for so called 'neglect'?
Some of you are SO passionate about it I just wonder if you think it would be right to take the parents away from her after all she would have been through?
I asked a similar question the other day about her being found murdered, but not by her parents and if you think they should still be put on trial, the general vibe from the 'antis' was yes they should!

MiMi - I am asking a perfectly reasonable question, not trying to 'stir' anything up thank you very much. This is a Q&A board, obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion thats the reason for asking it, to get peoples opinions, if everyone just 'drops it' there would be no point being on here would there!?

For the record I don't agree with what they did, I personally would not leave children alone like that. I just don't accept that dining 100 yards away from the kids and checking on them every half hour is 'neglect'. Hence the reason they have not been charged with it.

Scarymary - very well said, these people are forgetting poor Madeleine, who, if alive, would want more than anything in the world to be reunited with her 99% of the time loving parents, not put into care and grow up with a life of possible abuse.

I think they should be compensated by the Portuguese Judiciary and a world wide apology issued. It should be splashed across every newspaper world wide in every language. A grovelling apology to the McCanns and how much the Portuguese are planning to cough up in compensation for slander & liable.
OF COURSE Madeleine should be reunited with her mum & dad, sounds like some here would rather she went into care !!! I am astounded at this idea. Hasn't she suffered enough at the hands of strangers? You people make my stomach turn. Put yourself in Madeleines shoes. How dare you suggest that she should not be reunited with her mum & dad and twins...
Scary is stunned , but alas, not gob smacked.

Let me first say that I believe Madeleine was abducted and possibly still alive. I confess that I am a little shocked when you say that you don't think Kate and Gerry are guilty of neglect. In fact i have to pick myself up off the floor. Even I can see that they should have employed minders.
Never mind, to answer the question. A lot of people answering are parents and must be emotionally involved if they are answering McCann questions. Any court will decide if the McCanns are safe to leave Madeleine with, or be returned to. Surely they will return Madeleine to her parents - the other alternative is to take her away from them.
Kate and Gerry will be punished by a court one day.
Meanwhile Madeleine is reunited with mum and dad........is that all right with everyone?

The top and bottom of it is that if Kate and Gerry had not left those three babies alone, then Madeleine would not be missing. I am not an anti or a pro, but the law says that leaving any child under the age of 12 alone in a house a) is illegal, and b) constitutes neglect, so they should be charged with child neglect on three counts. Nobody is saying that Madeleine would be taken away from her parents if they were charged with neglect, but people want to see some punishment. Let's face it, if it was an unemployed couple, those kids would have been ripped away from them, and they would have been charged with neglect 4 months ago. They themselves have admitted that it was not a one-off, but was in fact a regular occurrence. They left those children vulnerable to anything throughout that holiday, and they should be prepared to accept responsibility for that. It was their job to protect their children, and yet they put them at risk night after night. That is illegal, and in my book they should be charged with child neglect because if it wasn't for their selfishness, Madeleine would not have gone missing in the first place.

I do not think myself that Maddie will come back to UK alive, i feel it has been too long now, And I feel that there has been more clues on her being killed by the Parents than there is of n Abductor.
As for Negligence maybe she should Get a fine if Maddie was to come back instead of them being parted Again once more.
But i suppose the worst punishment if they did not kill her has already happened with her going missing.
If she did kill Maddie may it stay and haunt her forever more.
Also why do people answer this with hate,if they don't like the questions then avoid the answers, you do not know they DID NOT kill her cannot prove they did not the same as others cannot prove they DID.
IT IS A SUBJECT THAT WONT STOP BEING ASKED WHEN YOU OPEN THE PAPER EVERY DAY AND ITS IN YOUR FACE.

If you don't think they're guilty of child neglect you can't support them because that's what they've said they did, they just added that they thought it was OK (wake up).
And if she was found I really would be very happy with that, yes they should go through a trial to make sure the same won't happen on next holidays, because they did that very often you know? and they didn't want to leave the kids with "strangers" (the same strangers who are professionally trained and took care of their children during the days) so they would be safe enough Twins and a 3 year old child on their own...
I feel sorry for you and I hope some day you do realise this is planet Earth 2007 there are bad people who can hurt your children.

She would have developed a case of stockholm syndrome if she continues to be alive, or delivered into yet another kinfolk the place they're the only kinfolk she has ever widespread, or can somewhat remember at considered one of these youthful age the place youngsters minds are somewhat programmable/ to brainwash. yet all of this might in all probability be the terrific case difficulty, it somewhat is, she continues to be alive, as a results of fact after all those years her being alive isn't likely. And in situations like this, the place that's a secret and there is not any one or no longer the rest accountable, the mum and dad come into question. who's to declare despite if or no longer that they had something to do with it, i might decide to think of, per human nature, that fogeys could no longer do something or be in contact with some thing like with their toddler, yet returned, who're we to declare. With the limited practise released to us, all we can do is speculate per what we are offered with by using the media. yet i does not constantly have faith each thing which you study or see on the information.

Firstly everyone is entitled to their opinion, so dont be surprised if people have an opinion different to yours when you ask a question.
I personally hope more than anything that she is found safe and well and that WHOEVER was responsible for her being taken is held accountable. If she was taken then in my opinion her parents are responsible for putting her in a vulnerable situation allowing her to be taken. It was NOT a mistake, they are mature, intelligent people, it was calculated neglect, they knew what they were doing. Okay, perhaps they didn't know she would be taken, but you dont take that chance with such young children in this day and age do you? Would you have a child with a knife or matches lying around because you "know they wont pick it up"?
Can I just ask out of interest? If you have a child / children and left them with a minder / relative / babysitter whilst you went out one night and the person looking after your child / children decided to bugger off out on the razz and leave your kids on their own. If god forbid something terrible happened to them, would you be so forgiving of the person you trusted you kids in the care of?
Im not a nasty evil person and I dont wish anyone to be "done" for murder unless they truly have been proven to be guilty, but we mustn't lose sight of the fact that if she was taken then Kate and Gerry are partly to blame for this!

Yes, they were dreadfully neglectful. The do deserve their day in court to explain why they neglected their children, why they hampered the Portuguese Police investigation and why they feel the need to to have hired lawyers right from the beginning. See, even they KNOW they were neglectful hence the legal team, they just won't admit it - and why all the media spin now.

I f Madeleine is found safe & well, ( very unlikely has you say ) i think the neglect thing should be brought up, but i can't imagine they would be put it Jail, can you really? but Neglect is a very serious matter & should not go unnotice like the Pros & the media & the McCanns want.
Why do you think that they did not Neglect their children? i am shocked you say this, there all different kinds of Neglect, and this is just one kind.

So you don't think that was neglect?
Let me ask YOU a question.
How would it have been if the McCanns had been babysitting YOUR kids that night?
And when you come back one is missing...
Would you call it neglect then and just have a drink with Gerry?
They went boozing and left their 3 kids alone.
As a result they now have 2.
How much more neglect would you require to register on your scale?

'For those of you who are so adamant that Kate & Gerry McCann are guilty of 'neglect' (I am not),'
Well, kahuna, now we know you wouldn't mind to leave 3 under 4 y/o alone in a foreign country inside an unlocked room.
For me, they are and they always will be guilty of 'neglect'. Caring parents on holidays take their kids with them and if they can't, then they don't go to booz or they get a babysit service (by the way, offered free by the resorts in several ocassion, and always refused by the McCanns)
