They sure are....and while you're at it, you should buy a new couch too. Make sure its comfy because you'll be spending many a night on it afterward.

ok...you obviously need a little help here...
First, if you have some kind of death wish, then sure, buy her what youre planning...are you doing some kind of home remodel or something?? Think about it like this...if you are remodeling, then things for your home are kind of necessary, not gifts....I once received a vaccuum, and my husband realized that it wasnt a good idea. It didn't ruin my Christmas, but I was highly disappointed. Us, as women, constantly have to clean something anytime of year, so avoid these gifts for ALLL holidays. Guys on the other hand, wouldnt mind lawnmowers and drills for their bdays and christmas.
If you really think you should buy these things, consult her first. Ask her for a list. If you want to be super sweet, then just listen to her mention the small things, and keep a secret "list". She'd much rather receive something from you that she didn't expect but that she wants. Its nice to know you guys actually listen...sometimes :)
Good luck!!

Why not push the boat out and get her a box of dishwasher tablets, and then get her the dishwasher to go with them for her birthday.

Without knowing the lady, I couldn't really say. It may well be worth your while to think about the many wonderful bargains to be had at the moment at your local pound shop. a word of warning though, don't spend more than £2, or she will expect spoiling regularly

I can't say for sure considering that you didn't include anything about her personality, but I agree with tattylashes. Get her a bottle of her favorite perfume and maybe a pretty necklace/ piece of jewelry of choice if you think she'd like that.

Tut tut tut not good ideas.
Why don't you get one off those photo shoot where she has a makeover too -
That way you don't risk being attacked with the hammer you want to buy.
