Smoke and mirrors, the rest is all BS. With all the imports and what not it is almost impossible to implement effective security measures and make the incoming products cost effective. Anyone determined enough could still put a nuke or a chemical weapon in a container or a ship and take out a lot of lives, and/or property in any major port city.
But you don't even need that, terrorism is about disruption, -refer back to Northern Ireland or Israel- and if you have just a few elements blowing up/shooting citizens in a shopping mall or school you will create disruption. People will stop shopping, and/or sending their kids to school, the economy would suffer.
To a certain extent the engineers of 9/11 have achieved their purpose. Pretty much in the same way that the US made the USSR spend money until they ceased to exist, Al Queda (or whoever) is forcing the US to spend money for an illusion of "security" on an unprecedented level. It somehow seems to have escaped the media's attention (and everybody else's for that matter) that our involvement in Iraq is longer than our involvement in WWII.

One security measure taken was the execution of Operation Noble Eagle. There are combat aircraft of the Air Force and the Air National Guard patrolling the skies over the U.S. Ground forces of the various State National Guard units have been "federalized", called to active duty and guard key installations in various cities. They are especially evident in New York City and Washington, D.C.
In contrast to other folks who answered your question, I'm aware that the rest of the world lists day first, followed by month and year. Please excuse their ignorance.

As a NYer who saw the buildings fall, I feel more like an Israeli now. Israeli's are a constant alert for those who wish them harm. NYer's are now on constant alert too. There is a more visible police presence and people are more apt to report odd occurrences. Otherwise like the Israeli's we go about and live our lives as we always have.

Certainly many places have more technology in place to try to increase security, but the tension has increased (especially internationally) so that there may be more people attempting terrorist activity.
In short ... its difficult to tell. The aggregate security seems pretty unchanged to me. I feel no safer, nor particularly in more danger ... just tenser.

u mean 9/11/01??
really, no different. like the wizard of oz, its all an illusion. the only ones who are suffering from this are actual american citizens who not only foot the bill, but are constantly harassed.
security is but a state of mind.

Security is fine. Few areas its more restrictive but nothing ive really encountered much of on a daily basis.
But you will probably confuse most Americans, they will look at your date as Nov 9th. USA dates go mm/dd/yyyy.

There has not been another attack. There have been one or two attempts, like guy caught trying to light a fuse to the bomb in his shoe (no metal in a fuse to beep at the checkpoint, but it is kind of obvious when you try to light a fuse in your shoe, so the passengers caught him) and the people who tried to make explosives with chemicals smuggled on the plane in shampoo bottles, but those were stopped before they could blow up a plane. So I guess it is more secure.
