I am thinking about travelling within Europe (UK, Ireland, Holland, Denmark, Finland, Germany) by train on my own, is it safe? Anybody has done it?

YES, OF COURSE it is safe here!

I live here in Europe and since I migrated here, I have done lots of travelling - cross countries by train (name it... Como, Milan, Nice, Monaco, Rome, Paris, Mont Saint Michel, Amsterdam, Austria, Bavaria, Sicily (even in Sicily I was on my own!) and nothing bad happened.

good luck and happy trip!

use internet access when you do your train schedules and connections... it is very useful!

for Switzerland we use: www.sbb.ch

I did it although it was 20 years ago :-) I don't think things have really changed very much - there are some cities where you are more likely to encounter a thief that others, but other than that it is fairly safe. On the trains themselves I would say it is very safe. Just make sure you know where you're going in the next city before you leave, so you're not wandering around on your own looking lost - apart from not looking so conspicuous, you will feel more confident.

I travelled around europe by myself ( for the most part) nd found it perfectly fine.

As pointed out, just use your common sense....keep hand luggage near you (you can usually store the bigger stuff) and watch out for the odd pickpocket....don;t advertise your wealth and keep your bags closed.

I didn't tend to go much out at night...I would eat close by to my hostel/hotel and stay in and get a good night sleep or read and get up early in the morning instead and get a good days worth of sightseeing.

Have a great time as there is soooo much to see.
I recommend Italy over some of the other places you are going ( unless there is a specific reason for going) also France has some amazing things to offter.
I also loved Prague and Croatia....look at these as cheap alternatives to many other places in Europe.

I've travelled through Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Ireland on my own by train, and it was fine.

In Ireland you might find the buses handier, there aren't that many train routes in use.

Like everywhere, it depends where you go. If you stay in the busy tourist areas they are well policed. If you go into some out of the way slum areas then you are likely to get mugged.

Absolutely!! Use common sense and don't do anything you wouldn't do here. For instance, sleeping with a wad of money on your lap would be a bad idea.

Yeah, it's safe as long as you follow the basic rules...it would be even better if you could take a friend
