I am convinced my neighbour was brought up in the city, as he ALWAYS leaves the gate open when he comes in and out!

I was brought up in the countryside and therefore was taught to close every gate, so I'm a stickler for it! Just wondering if you yokel-borns have the same respect for a shut gate...or even you city-born folks!

I was born and raised in the country and I always shut gates. Two reasons, to keep the animals inside (and the predators outside) and because I felt protective of my land. Plus, an open gate seems to invite trouble if you ask me. I can't imagine why your neighbor leaves it open-must be a city boy !

I don't think it has any thing to do with whether you were brought up in the city or country. I was born and raised in London and I always shut gates behind me.
I have a gate leading to my front door and if I look out of my window and see my gate open I always go out and shut it, no matter what time of day or night it is.

apparently I was born further out into the country than you we didn't have too many gates to worry about but when visiting folks who had them yes they were kept closed always or the animals might get out and that would be a huge pain in the neck. And I still keep all gates closed for much the same reason although really it started to keep my then 2 year old in.

Born and Bred in the country and have a total respect for it.
I always close gates, yes! and I never drop litter, even though I did work and live in the city for 12 years, I still kept my habits up, and now I am back in the country again it is refreshing to see others doing likewise.

Cities are so fast and insular it is easy to breeze around with little regard to your surroundings. Lets face it it is only your own space in a city that you can truly relax in!!
:o)

No i wasn't brought up in the country but i still shut gates behind me. It comes from having a dog, i didn't like the thought of him buggering off looking for some action and ending up under somebody's wheels. Also if you left a gate open in the country there's always the danger of having a frightened horse trample over someone's car and maybe killing somebody or any other animals getting into the road and causing mayhem. One of my neighbours is a pain in the ****, she ALWAYS leaves our gate and the back door open when she comes in to exercise her jaw..... it gets right up my nose!! GRRRRRRR!!!

I was brought up in the city and educated about the country. I always close gates. I lived in semi rural places in my teens, and my father was always taking us on reeeaallly long country walks, wherever we lived.
It's about upbringing and education.
