wow, i was not accepting this attack! i wasn't judging, i was wondering. i do know a lot of soldiers, i come from a country where everyone has to go to the army and i have friends who have been through it and dont like talking about what they had to do.. i dont have any thing against soldiers that have to go into war and will do everything they have to do. but on the other hand i know a guy that's joined the army and has actually told me he doesnt care who he's gonna fight against.. and that all a soldier (i think he was refering to himself) prays for is a good war .. and then added that the enemy will have uniform so they'll know who to kill... i can compeletly understand a soldier fighting with belief, but not a soldier fighting just for the sake of fighting..

There is a phenomenon of bloodlust that infects some soldiers. Anyone who has seen the elephant has seen people wearing our uniform who frighten the bejeezus out of them.
Many of the scary people end up as Force Recon Marines. It's just an artifact of how we select Force Recon Marines (violent people)....how we train them (to be deadly) and how we employ them (go out in the dark with three buddies and kill anyone "over there" who's not dressed like we are. Same basic principle as underlies Airborne Doctrine.
War is messy. Not all soldiers get to play nice, in crisp clean uniforms. Not al soldiers have any clear idea whom to kill. And anyone who has not seen a comrade lose it and hose down the county can't understand the line between combat and psychosis is a fine one.
And combat is addictive as all get out. The OLD paintball sport (the one played deep in the woods for a day at a time, not the ridiculous ten minute paintfest in an arena) testified to how good it is to go in harm's way and leave nothing of your opponents but a greasy spot. Half the guys on my old team had ratings for PTSD from when they were in country.
It's more acceptable because the soldier is advancing the interests of his unit, his service, and his nation when he kills. It's all about motive. The mind of the killer is not all different, no matter whom he is killing, or why.

Ah...Let's see...First a soldier would not say it that way. Second no soldier LIKES to kill, nor does he "hunger" for war. Here's a news flash for you...War takes the soldier away from his family. War is NOT fun for anyone, my friend. War may get the SOLDIER killed or maimed. He will kill if he HAS to...to defend himself and his country.
A "psycho" kills because he WANTS to...he even enjoys it. Your question is rude and uninformed.
Edit: How could you really be surprised by the reaction to your question? Would YOU be happy if you were being compared to a psycho? If you know A soldier who says those things, he is either acting macho on your behalf (some feel they have to do that) or he has some emotional problems and needs professional help. That is NOT the feelings of the average military person.

No! A soldier has to be ready to fight for their country! They are putting their lives on the line for us they have to be in that state of mine or they will be killed and we don't want that! When their county is threatened and hundreds of their own have been killed they have to be ready to kill or be killed! They are our protectors! A psycho is killing just to be killing they have a problem! They are fascinated by killing! So no it is not the same! I am guessing you have never met a soldier have you! I am sorry you have never had the pleasure of meeting one maybe someday you will! It is not that is is more acceptable it is they are fighting for us to have freedom and to continue to live in this country that will all love and to be able to sleep better at night knowing they are doing all they can to keep us safe! All of my friends and people that I know in the military don't go in it because they get to kill they do it because they get to protect and fight for their country! I don't believe that they enjoy the killing part that is just a part of their job! Sorry if it came across as an attack most are just very protective of soldiers especially if they know one! It is wrong to compare the 2! There is a big difference and everyone just wanted you to see that!

Soldiers engage and kill an enemy. They also STOP killing when the war is over. A psychotic is a mentally unstable individual who can go into uncontrollable spells and can (but not usually) harm or kill without reason, and with no on/off switch. A mentally ill person automatically being painted as a killer is just as gross of a stereotype as your depiction of soldiers based off of 80's Vietnam movies.

I am the son and nephew of 2 men who served in WWII, Korea & Vietnam. Not once have I ever heard from them, or any of the Vietnam veterans I knew during my service in the Armed Forces, say, "I 'hunger for war and killing'". I have, however, heard many men who were in combat relate how they wish there was no war, but they know there must be. There must so that, if nothing else, someone like you has the freedom to post a "question" as ridiculous as this, and not face anything more than the righteous cyber-anger of people who are older and wiser than you in the ways of reality.

I think you never seen a war. No soldier is hungry for killing any body unless, it is really necessary. Psycho is altogether different most of the time they never realise what they are up to. They get into some kind of mantle trans and act in that trans. A soldier knows very well what he is doing. The comparison is meaningless.

There is a difference between being a psycho and a warrior. If you have never been there you will probably never understand. You will continue to judge from a distance.
"Now, some of you boys, I know, are wondering whether or not you'll chicken out under fire. Don't worry about it. I can assure you that you will all do your duty. The Nazis are the enemy. Wade into them, spill their blood, shoot them in the belly. When you put your hand into a bunch of goo that a moment before was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do."

I think it depends, it can be if that is the mentality that person is in. Generally I would say no though. The motivation is to exact some sort of overall goal...not to kill an individual..and most soldiers are ill-prepared to deal with the mental ramifications of this action and are quite scarred by it. It all depends on the motivation behind it...

You don't actually know any soldiers, do you? The psychos get drummed out of the service and become "peace" activists.

No real SOLDIER I have known, first in Viet Nam and throughout my other actions, has ever WANTED to kill or to be in a position of killing.
