I just bought a '95 Z-28 Convertible. It, of course, has the 5.7 lt1 with 100,000 miles on it. It was sitting in a guys back yard for about two months. He said an old lady pulled out in front of him, so he replaced the front clip. What should I do to tune it up? Not necessarily performance, just to ensure that its running properly.

air filter - pcv valve
spark plugs - wires - cap - rotor
tire pressure - check for dry rot - broken belts
Lube all the zerk fittings on the suspension ( grease gun)
drain all the old gas out and replace with new gas.
Also the fuel filter should be swapped for a new one.
flush the tranny and radiator - so you know your all good there

Pull the spark-plugs and check the gaps with a wire gap gage available at Sears or any auto parts store. If the plug gaps are more than .005 too wide replace with either NGK or AC-Delco iridium plugs.
Plan on replacing the ignition wires also. Use top shelf ignition wires such as AC Delco, MSD or Moroso. Apply some silicone ignition grease inside both terminal ends of the new wires so they will never stick on either end again.

I love your car!!!!!!!!! I have a '96 Firebird hardtop.

For the tune-up...I am not a mechanic, but you might want to do the following things:

1. New spark plugs
2. New oil and filter
3. New air filter
4. Inspect plug wires
5. Fresh gasoline
6. If the battery has had parasitic drag, have it recharged or get a new one (it probably is fine after just a couple of months of sitting)
7. New fuel filter
8. If affordable or necessary, have the fuel injectors/plenum cleaned

Good luck man!
