Thanks to Mike, I will now add that the noise is from the compressor and/or fan, not from rattling of the cage.

NO! DO NOT situation any blanket of any type over the external unit. You will kill it. There's a reasonable hazard the compressor is soreness! Have a provider outfit that you'll believe pop out ASAP. I inform you this: with out no less than a few specific knowledge its just about unimaginable to correctly reply your question.... Is this unit a warmness pump or directly A/C? Is the noise a rattle?, a noisy hum? does it sound like a frustrated bumble bee? Be extra special. btw: there's no such factor as pumping electrical warmness.

Would have really helped if you had specified what kind of noise - rattling at vents, loud air movement noise, noise from the fan and compressor outdoors, etc.

build a box around it. Leave 12" on all sides and build it 12" above the unit.You can use wood pre-fab fence tto make it easy.
