Hitler was not a Christian more than nominally. Spiritually, he was probably a non-believer, and culturally he was leaning towards the pre-Christian Germanic traditions. Some Nazi propagandists even described Christianity as a part of the alleged Jewish plot to take over the world.

This is a tricky one, because of the politically-correct implications.
Properly-speaking, Christianity is not a religion of terror; it is in fact, the very opposite - a religion of love. However, those who are not truly Christians, but claim to be, twist the doctrine and do wicked things because they do not know the Saviour, even though they claim to belong to him.
It is historically true that Hitler was brought up a roman catholic and maintained links with that religion (as far as I know) throughout his reign as Fuhrer.
But, he could not have been a christian, for two main reasons:
a) because he was a murderer, and scripture says that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him (I John 3:15),
and
b) because he killed Jews, and killing Jews and trying to exterminate the race is a two-fold attack on Christ himself. Firstly, Jews are Jesus' brethren according to the flesh, and secondly, efforts to exterminate the race are an attempt to nullify Christ's promise to return to Jerusalem as Messiah.
In a nutshell, all anti-semitism is demonically-inspired, as is murder. If a person does these things, he is not Christ's.

Christianity has had a history of violence. Lets look at the crusades, the Spanish inquisition, the Ku Klux Klan, the list goes on. Though most modern christians will claim that they have moved on and that they claim that those mentioned were not christians, those who did do all these things did it under the christian banner.
However (and i stress this next sentence) NO RELIGION IS SAFE FROM MALICIOUS DICTATORS AND MALINGNANT RULERS!!!!!!
Hitler was not a good example.

Hitler was an occultist, not a Christian. He believed in Christ's existence, but did not follow his teachings. He also aligned himself with the Catholic church, but neither side was keen on the other... It was a marriage of convenience.

Hitler was not a Christian. He may have tried to wrap his horrible deeds in a Christian banner, but to any thinking entity it's obvious that he was anything but Christian.
