Do they have what the Twins would want? I think they would ask for David Wright or Jose Reyes

Frizzer - the money Santana would demand is far greater than it would cost to pay an everyday player like Reyes or Wright. Reyes would come cheap. Also, Santana has been very vocal about the fact that he was upset with the Twins for not improving the team this year...

I believe the Twins are the front runner to resign Santana and after that it could be anyone. Let me ask you a question, if the Twins have enough money to sign Wright or Reyes why not keep Santana and pay him? If the Twins don't resign Santana they are telling their fans that they don't want a winning team. I also believe they are letting Hunter go so they can hold on to the cash to sign Santana.

There is very little chance that the Mets want Santana enough to offer either Wright or Reyes given that Santana has only one more year on his contract.

Reyes and Wright would be under a team's control for another 3 or 4 years

There is no way that right now they would make a trade that involves either Wright or Reyes. They are the catalysts for the Mets offense. As for trying to get Santana. I have seen him before he got sent up to the Majors. Watching him play for the Red Wings and if the Mets can put together a few prospects for the deal it would help our pitching for next year. I just wish we had not lost Sanchez to that injury last year. I believe that with him there is no way we would have missed the play-offs this year.

I think they have as good of a chance as the Yankees, Red Sox and Angels have. A few other teams like Seattle and St. Louis are spenders as well so they have a shot. I do not see him staying in Minnesota past next year as he is already saying that he wants out. Minnesota is trying to set aside enough to keep him but I am not sure that it will be enough to make him want to stay.

As far as who the Mets would have to give up? I am not thinking that the Mets would part with either of those two guys in a trade at this point, there would be plenty of prospects involved and possibly Lastings Miledge. I think that the Twins will look for bulk and quality and not high salary so Reyes and Wright are out of the picture because they are going to command a high salary.

the twins said they are going to listen to offers for him this offseason, theyt have no chance to resing him for 2009
If the Mets said Reyes for Santana its done, but even thu Jose acted and played like a clown the 2 months, i cant see the Mets trading him
